    Help identifying kona frame

Re: Re: It could be. The difference is in the top- and downtubes. A '94 Explosif should have a slim, smooth top tube and a fatter ribbed or ridged downtube, like this: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/mai ... emId=64829 viewtopic.php?f=6&t=221824 A '94/'95 Kilauea has a top- and...

    Help identifying kona frame

Re: Re: Here's a bare frame that shows the seat tube fairly clearly. No bulge-butted lower end. No rack mounts either. https://www.flickr.com/photos/spatuluk/9339293847/ Also, look at the form of the seatstay and chainstay ends. They're domed, rather than mitred. Here's a '94 Kilauea...

    Help identifying kona frame

Re: Re: Yep, we're leapfrogging! A few measurements of toptube and downtube diameters would clinch it - assuming none of the tubes have been replaced!

    Help identifying kona frame

Re: Re: The seat tube of the '94 Cinder Cone was ovalised at the bottom bracket, but not bulge-butted. You can see the difference in this picture: download/file.php?id=46330 and this one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/108757016 ... 057085103/ When viewed from the side, the tube narrows...

    Help identifying kona frame

A '93 frame would have a '92-'93 serial number, and those aren't '93 dropouts. A '94 serial number means a '94/'95 frame. That's a bulge-butted Tange Prestige seat tube, which - I think - should make it a Kilauea or Explosif. Are the main tubes shaped in any way? Tapered? Ovalized? Ribbed?

SHIMANO M739 link fixing washer (MPN) Y8AA49000

I agree that they should, but it may be that not every seller is aware that the correct items are special and hard to obtain. I use flickr. I don't know that it's the best, but it works for me.

    5 speed rudge english racer

Here's Rudge: http://veterancycleclublibrary.org.uk/l ... 7&items=16 If I'm not mistaken, "English Racer" is an American term for a light roadster, rather than a club bike.

SHIMANO M739 link fixing washer (MPN) Y8AA49000

Welcome. Sorry - I don't have any to sell you. I'd been planning to buy a few sets next time I put in a small parts order to Madison. The Madison site seems to be down for updating; perhaps they'll be available again when the site goes back up. I wonder if these washers and the bolts that go...

Road to Mountain bike front hub compatibility

Yep. Nearly all qr front hubs are 100mm over the lock nuts, with a 9mm axle. There are exceptions, but they tend to be old, new, or obscure.

What Kind of Raleigh 531 ST do I have? Please help!

It would be a good idea to repost this in the road section, or ask one of the moderators to move this thread. You'll get more knowledgeable responses there. Alternatively, send a PM to originalshinkicker: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=21263 He'll be able to confirm that it actually is a...

What Kind of Raleigh 531 ST do I have? Please help!

Welcome. https://www.flickr.com/photos/139316030 ... 051786525/ It's a keeper! It looks to me like quite a special bike. If it's really a Raleigh, I think it's an SBDU custom, dating from the mid-late eighties. The stick-on head badge was often used on lightweight specials, and the lack of...

    Marin afterburner

It could be a slightly older frame with a few newer parts added. The paint job looks a good match for the 1997/98 model in the catalogue here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... y.jpg.html I've got a '97 Team Marin frame with a serial number that begins 9708F - which I've always taken...

    Stuck Cassette Hub

I don't recognize the hub, but some manufacturers use a hollow retaining bolt that comes from the hub shell into the freehub body, rather than from the freehub body into the shell. That gets around the wording of Shimano's patent. If the bolt head is inside the shell, you need to turn the bolt...
