    New Breezer MTB's

Thank you all for your remarks about the new Breezers. Very thoughtful. Hey, I'm in England now, and since I've seen so much interest in this thread, I thought I'd invite y'all to a ride where you might be able to try out a new Breezer Lightning and/or Thunder. The ride will happen one week...

Stu, That looks like a '97. Forks are right for 1997 anyway. The serial number on the BB gives it away: the 7 in H7xxxxxx means 1997. 1997 is the first year with my D'fusion tubing. So far, few people have posted 97 and 98 Breezers, but they are among my favorites. -Joe

Thanks for asking, Kaiser. Is your interest in the SS, the bridge? Here's a close up of the bridge. I've seen a lot of attempts at this flared profile, but they were all CNC'd. Tubing is about three times lighter and structurally does more than whittled chunks. Another reason why tubing is...

Well said, kid. But would you say the same if we revoked your room and board? ;-) Anyway, thought I better stick in a BIAS ALERT. -Joe Dad

Ouch. After feeling the love from comments made here at "Show us your Breezer" it's a queasy swing of the pendulum with some comments here. But that's the biz... Jeff, thanks for your initial post. I had contemplated posting the new Breezers, but figured this wasn't the forum. To Jeroen...

    OLDEST bike on retrobikes???

Looks real clean, Doc. Try lowering the brake yokes down about 2 to 3 inches. You'll probably need new brake cables, but that will improve performance noticeably. -Joe

    OLDEST bike on retrobikes???

Awesome! I love those vibrant Hetchins. Art as is. Interesting lugs. Not so much the pattern, but the fact that the lugs have been chopped quite close to the edge of the adjacent tube junction (see top of seat lug, and head lugs). As this is a little daring (sketchy) structurally, the only...

Thanks for posting. A little digression here, though with MTB overtones: My 1971 Triumph Tiger 750 in 1984 and photographer Mush Emmons with his Norton Commando 850 in 1981. I rebuilt mine from top to bottom. Even put bronze bushes in the connecting rods. Steve Potts painted the bike...

The two arch-crown halves were made by Cunningham/Potts. 4130 cro-moly tubing. I had drawn up my uni-crown fork design in 1980, and had given it to Fisher to take to Japan, but good quality versions were not available yet. -Joe

1983 Breezer Series 2. BTW, the difference between S1 and S2 is only that the Head tube and seat tube collars are visible on S1. S2 HTs are oversize and bored out for most of the middle, like most good BBs. Oh, and on Series 2 frames I also made the stem. I sweated a stub into the steerer for...

Deveron got me looking through the archives for Hite-Rite images. I found these from a Mush Emmons photo shoot at the Industrial Building Center in Sausalito. This is a 1983 Breezer Series 2. Most all were nickel plated. This one is chrome plated, then painted by Bernie Mikkelsen. First, the...

Right what's not to like about a lightweight $30 seat dropper. But I can't say I've let the world know, of late. Most all new bikes use a separate seatpost clamp, your 575 included, but this should not pose a problem. You'll need to get a clamp designed for a 6mm skewer or modify yours. The...

Hi James, Thanks for posting your two '97 Breezers, one steel, one aluminum. John (The Guv'nor) asked me about my Breezer D'fusion tubing. 1997 was my first year with it, and these bikes are examples. D'fusion tubes have a D-shaped cross section for key points on the frame. I had been working...

Thanks Joe, I see what you mean by the pointed root, nice little detail to remember. what prompted the change to a more curved spear? Have you got any events planned whilst in the UK? Looking more closely at the 1930-40s style, they were curved in the root. It evolves... No, but as it...

    1976 Joe Breeze road bike

Ned, I did another such tour, though on single bikes, with Tom Ritchey in 1999. 16 Alpine passes in 6 days. Tom hasn't slowed down a bit. Following are two German guys (from Bavaria, no?) we found heading over the Stelvio (the longest sustained climb in Europe with 6,000 feet of climbing...

Looks like a '91. Spears were more harlequin that first year, with a pointed root. Pretty place Bridport. Was there in '91. Good to see the sun shining bright. I'll be in the UK next week. -Joe

    1976 Joe Breeze road bike

In 1982, I made a road tandem for a ride in the Alps that year. Otis rode the 1979 trans-con Ritchey with his wife Kate, and I rode mine with my friend Barb. We rode from Grenoble east over a dozen passes including the Grimsel, Furka, Albula, Stelvio and Gavia. Then headed down to Florence via...

Thank you for your generous offer. I'll never forget that ride either. Phaty, SSWC04 impresario, was able to secure a ride limited to 30 on a wooded estate not far from the center of Berlin. Here's a shot of Breezer singlespeeders there that day. Photo by Urs Rosenbaum, RideBiz. -Joe

Two purple 1994 Storm singlespeeds: one owned by Jer in Cali, one owned by Jeroen in Holland. Aside from the Breezer Beamer in 94 and 95, we only offered purple in 94, on the Storm. Other one-year colors: 96 lime-ish green Storm. And along in there (94?), our German distributer Bike Action asked...
