    1970's Atala

Doooh!!!! Ha you're right I don't know my ABC's!!! Yip it is in fact Tullio Tubing. It was Atala's in house tubing used predominately for their low to mid range frames. Judging from the info it was straight hi tensile steel set although my frame does feel reasonable weight wise. The...

    1970's Atala

Don't know if the tubes are double butted but measured the seatpost to be 26.8mm using calipers. Don't know if this helps someone to judge the grade of the tubes. I tried searching the net for Tuppio tubing from Padova, Italy and there's pretty much zilch info. Dropouts are all Campagnolo...

    1970's Atala

Started stripping parts off today - nice sunny day to do it (complete contrast to UK!!). Judging from the internals it hasn't been used for a very very long time and when it probably was - only used for weekend rides. The grease on all the components was way past it but remarkably the headset...

    1970's Atala

Forks are ok - reason it looks wonky is I didn't do up the quick release properly and the tubular is slapped on to protect the rims only. Yip not much info on the tubing as the internet has as much info as the sticker on the frame - name and origin!?? There's some info on the Atala bike range...

    1970's Atala

Whilst on Christmas holidays in Melbourne I managed to pick up this 1970's Atala road bike. The seller had a treasure trove shed load of bikes and bits - you could go ga ga for days looking for stuff in there. The bike itself once belonged to one of his relatives' and was in pretty good...

    1980s Centurion MTB

Finally got the frame painted up. Had a few hiccups when a spray can nozzle imploded and splattered the primer layer badly. So had to sand it back again and then sprayed it royal blue color followed by some metallic blue to lighten it and add abit of sparkle. Then finished off with a few layers...

    1980s Centurion MTB

I'm going to try get a similar blue to the original over my initial choice of screaming bright orange. I'll keep it conservative! With the wheels if all else failed I was thinking about Dia Compe high flange hubs laced up to Rigida Sputnik sliver rims (modern quality with old school looks) but...

    1983 nishiki bushwacker... should i??

Nice one - the bike is in great nick for it's age. It's almost the same as my 1980's Centurion mtb I'm doing up and even the parts are similar (seems like Suntour was king back then?!!) but you're lucky you won't need to do much restoration work on it! Hang on to it and enjoy. :D

    1980s Centurion MTB

The frame has been primered up and ready for the final paint job. Here's a couple of mock up pics of the frame with wheels. I kept on getting trounced on auctions at the last micro second for the period Araya wheels so instead got some cheap bolt on screw hub ones from a LBS for 30 bucks (@ 15...

    1980s Centurion MTB

Well the frame is almost fully stripped for a repaint. Old paint is flimsy thin with lots of surface rust underneath the paint. Reconsidering my orange color choice and probably redo it similar to the original paint scheme. The Suntour AG rear derailleur's pulley wheel is abit nackled - stripped...

    Old Nikon cameras

Here are a couple of vintage Nikon cameras I bought this year. A Nikon S2 rangefinder from 1954 and a 1960's Nikon F SLR complete with motordrive. Originally learnt how to take decent photos on a Nikon F camera before working in the photography industry for ages They weight a ton, simple to use...

    1980s Centurion MTB

Checked on Wiki and yes you are right that they became Diamond Back by the 90's and some of the original staff went on to form ParkPre bikes. There were so many brands around that period - good times. No work today so had time to to start some paint stripping but the hard way with only a wire...

    1980s Centurion MTB

Picked up this 1980's Centurion mtb minus wheels today. Don't know much about the brand except that US triathlete Dave Scott used their road bikes to win a few Hawaiian Ironmans back then. Gearing is all Suntour, AG rear derailleur, friction shifters and dia-compe lookalike made in Chang Star...
