Re: I think so. The modern bike fits lovely though - I guess it's just changes in geometry & stem / steerer etc.

    1962 Viking Conquest

Re: Suffering a distinct lack of confidence on this today, both on the extreme patina idea and sizing. I'm measuring it up against my Spa Audax and finding TT 2cm lower but more significantly the top of HT is about 4 cm lower, and with the Spa having plenty of steerer and 100mm stem, this...

    1962 Viking Conquest

I picked this up yesterday because I liked the wrecked paintwork, On picking it up I discovered it includes hand painted 'improvements in a number of areas. It's only my second ever road bike, with the first being modern, so my knowledge on these things is close to none. My initial plan is to...

Are Vuelta Airline 1 rims any good? I've picked up a pair in nice condition with quality hubs & just wondering whether to use them on a build.

Re: So, I resisted the Virus? purchase. It looked a well sorted bike, very clean & ready to go, and his asking price was only £90 before any negotiation, but I'd have been buying for the sake of it.

Should I buy my first vintage road bike?

Re: Quick update - picked the Viking up. The seller is in his 70s and says he's going to stop tinkering with bikes and focus on the two that he rides. He insisted i took the contents of his spares boxes. There's some stuff I'll use and the rest can go to a bike project. The Viking...

Should I buy my first vintage road bike?

Re: Re: That's my plan - i told the seller this and he thought I was mad :D I'll look into the best way to do it - I'd like some of the original zing of the colours to be there but not loose the patina. There's bare steel to protect too.

Re: Thanks for the info. I do love a 'What it is' puzzle. From what i can gather, both the seller and his brother were keen cyclists from the 50s onwards, and their bikes seem a real mix of parts. My guess is that the 'vitus' might be offered to me for around £60.
