Re: Re: Thank you. It turned out really well. I'm just waiting for the frost and icy cold winds to disappear so I can get out in the Spring and ride it.

    753R Raleigh Banana SBDU

Frame Builders / Repairers in the North East

I think Kevin Winter may still be going, although finding information about him online is almost impossible. I found this on a forum a little while ago KEVIN WINTER COUNTY DURHAM AREA 01740 652281 I think that is a Sedgefield/Durham number. I also found this - it mentions Kevin as a partner...

    seat post fit

Super Tourist was 89+ and used the revised Reynolds transfer. Special Tourist was pre 89 and used a different design transfer, so upload a pic of your transfer.

    seat post fit

Is your tubing Special Tourist (ST) or Super Tourist (ST)... I'm guessing, based on the 26.8 pin that it is Super Tourist - Reynolds beefed up the seat tube and top tube in 1989 and Super Tourist takes a 26.8mm seat post. If your pin is moving and also clamping tight when the bolt in the seat...

    753R Raleigh Banana SBDU

This frame has just been sat while I've collected the remaining bits to build it, that includes a 27.4 Dura-Ace seat pin, Cinelli bars, black XA stem, black turbo saddle and some 7401 clipless pedals. So this is how it was - a complete lack of any Banana transfers. I've removed the MAVIC...

    Mystery Newcastle Bicycle

Hi Jon Not sure about Ces, I think he was older than Ron. I was with Ron about 6 months ago and he was 84. I remember Ces coming into Dentons in the 90s before Ron retired. Cheers Neil

    Mystery Newcastle Bicycle

George Barrass was the owner of a bike shop in Newcastle, based on Westgate Road, and in June 1953 he retired and handed the partnership over to Ces Jones. In Easter the following year, the business was renamed as Denton Cycles. Ces and Ron continued to run the business until Ces sold the...

    80's TT bike tubing options?

This Columbus SL info shows a seat tube of 28.6 with a 0.6/.09 single butted seat tube which will probably be a 27.0 seat pin So if your frame is Columbus SL it must be saving weight in other areas such as milled BB, short chainstays, type of lugs, number of braze on fittins etc

    80's TT bike tubing options?

OD's look Imperial (25.4 top tube 28.6 down tube and 28.6 seat tube, give or take a little for paint thickness). Metric was 26.0 28.0 and 28.0 Are you sure the seat pin size is 27.0? As that makes the seat tube quite thick (thicker than 531) which doesn't fit in with the lightness you've...

    80's TT bike tubing options?

I was keeping my reference about rifling to the early 80s which was mentioned. I thought TSX was later 80s, and SPX would probably be far too heavy for the weight quoted as it was a relatively thick tube. Having said that, SLX would probably be outside of that weight range too. Even Columbus SL...

    80's TT bike tubing options?

Do you know how early 80s it is, is it pre or post 82/83? Early 753 could have a seat pin size of 27mm. Have you measured the external diameters of the tubes to check if they are imperial or metric. (Metric would have a 28.0mm seat tube and Imperial would have 28.6) - Metric tubed frames are on...

    753R Raleigh Banana SBDU

Thank you to Phil for the frame. This is a lovely SBDU frame, SB8868, in Banana colours. It is in amazing condition and ready to build - all I'm going to do with the frame is re-fit some of the missing Banana transfers. As the top tube transfer says, it will be built with Dura-Ace 7400
