Watching with interest. I quite fancy an RTS as I've always liked the look of them. Was actually one of the first full sus bikes I tested (up and down the road at a bike show) but never owned one. Starting to seem a bit rare now. Good luck with it.

You know what they say about manners; they cost nothing. The main point of my post was not to mix fluids and that I "thought" Hope use Dot fluid. Hope have been making brakes with M on for years, (mono, M4 etc.) and they use dot brake fluid. I had a quick check of their website and they say...

Hope and Sram use dot5.1. shimano and magura use mineral oil.

Need to be careful with which brake oil you use. I think Hope brakes (bought complete) use dot4. Think Sram use dot4 too but shimano (and magura) use mineral oil. You can't use dot4 in brakes made for mineral oil as it destroys the seals (but i think you can do the other way around) so glad...

Think my long stop and short stop locations are the exact opposite of yours.

cheap town bike, all parts bolted on and it looked like the junk it mostly was (dura ace cranks, xt rear mech, spares from the garage etc.). Even with a cheap lock i could leave it most places safely.

I guess winter depends which hemisphere you reside in. Although that might look like British summer I think it will pass :D

OMFW that thing is so awesome. After stumbling across and old Foes I can't believe that you just stumbled across some cheap airlines to boot. That bike is gonna be a stunner, look forward to the finished build.

I had one of Tim Goulds old skin suits a few years back. I'm 175cm and it was small on me. 55cm top tube i'd ride on road. I know Tim's a racer but would this have been too big for him? It could also be that i ended up with one of his old skin suits because it was also too small for him 🤣

An interesting solution. I had a similar problem with my road bike so i rode it with no crank bolts in until it fell off. It was a simple solution, I knew it would work it was just a shame i was 20 miles from home at the time 🤣

Nice find. Always liked the vitus but not the strongest of frames especially in the larger sizes which is probably why they are harder to find. A barn find is probably best as it doesn't seem to have had a hard life. I had one back in the 90s (not sure if it was a 979 or a 997). Crashed it...

Yeah I'd probably agree with those prices. TBH is the OP thinks those prices are laughable then perhaps they aren't ready to sell into the current market. I don't know the reasons for selling such a fleet in one go but if you want a good price for them you might be best hanging on to them for...

Thanks for the insight. I remember the push from manufacturers (early 90s) to get racers using full sus bikes, the rumour was they used them pretty much locked out. As a wanna be racer back then i kinda turned my nose up at suspension but both of those things have changed now.
