    A nice little ride today...

Re: Re: Well now, we could have found out about that if you had only invited me along that day Dylan! That's quite a decent little ride, you must have had room for a nice piece of cake. Another good tea shop is the Beanstalk, do you know that one? It's on the coach road to the east of Firle...

    Ballistic in Gosport

Re: 'Mavic sup ceramic 121 rims lx hubs and titanium spokes' must have cost a bit to build BITD! People often forget that the 121 ceramic was Mavic's most expensive rim at the time. Lighter, more xc-oriented version of the D521, for those who haven't come across one.

    Kona advice needed

Re: Re: I think it was about £850 when it was new, although it perhaps doesn't look it with the drab paint job. I feel sure you could fit a double chainset if you wanted - if you look at the Stuff, that had the same frame and a double plus bash. The quoted weight was 31.9lbs, which is a lot by...

STOLEN DEKERF LOCATED IN MI, NEED YOUR HELP TO RECOVER!

Re: Apologies if this isn't a very hip thing to suggest Jason, but wouldn't it be best to report it to the local police, rather than calling in the Retrobike vigilantes?

    Kona advice needed

Re: If he dissed the colour, maybe he meant this one? http://www.klassickona.com/oldgold/2k7/COWAN/index.html Nothing to stop you doing any of that, but I would guess that a Chameleon would be far better.

    Little Kona King Kahuna

Re: It's actually a Hei Hei, size 16, 1999. The serial number confirms this.

Hope mono mini complete set sold

Re: Were we discussing these brakes a while back, and then you had to withdraw them? Or maybe I dreamt it? Anyway, if it was you, I've probably already asked you the hose lengths, but could you remind me please? Subject to that, I'm interested.

    What happened to VooDoo cycles?

Re: VooDoo themselves aren't making anything, and haven't since 2011/12 - hopefully just dormant, but possibly dead. They took the VooDoo-USA website down a few weeks ago, which seems a bad sign. VooDoo did die once before though, around 2001, then came back in 2004. Maybe the mass market...

Tubeless rims/tyres inner tube issues! Help please!

Re: I don't know what the Bontrager tubeless rims are like, but if they're anything like the shape/shallow depth of ZTR rims, then in my experience they won't let the tyres seat properly with tubes, and I too have had problems with misshapen/wobbly tyres. My conclusion is that you have to run...

Are Tapered head tube frames an extinct species

Re: Tapered forks also sell for less than straight 1 1/8, but I don't think it means tapered is on its way out. I think it's just a temporary phenomenon whilst people still have older bits to make into a bike. If you have a 1 1/8 fork to use, you'll only be interested in a 1 1/8 frame. And vice...

    TST Frame identification

Re: It would usually mean the 17th size 14 frame made for that brand. I don't think Brodie has ever sold ti bikes, and I wasn't aware the Bontrager Ti Lite ever had bullet stays, nor was made by TST. Are you sure the first 'B' isn't an 'R'? [although Ti Bolts usually just had RM, not RMB]

Fork Suggestions - Orange Evo2 Rebuild

Re: If you're in doubt about the disc tabs on the various models, you could do worse than to pm justbackdated on here and ask his advice (AKA Tim Price). He used to work for Pace and is now the leading repairer of Pace forks, trading as Fork English.

    Kona Kilauea 2000 20" frame

Re: Oh, OK, that would imply it's about the same weight as a Caldera actually. Allowing c150g for the original factory powdercoat brings you to c4.6lbs, which is about right for a Caldera, depending on size obviously. I thought Steve's was a bit lighter.

    SOLD @ £1925 - Old Barns & Unicorns - 1996 Kona King Kahuna

Re: The bike is a bit of a strange mixture in some ways. I haven't seen one with 1995 decals before (other than the Hei Hei and King Kahuna, which are 96 in style but 95 in colour). The serial number is consistent with late 95 or early 96 build, and the -64 part clearly denotes the King Kahuna...

    Kona Kilauea 2000 20" frame

Re: The last catalogue Kilauea was in 1998, but later there were Kilaueas sold as frame-only in 2000 and 2001 (perhaps to fill in a gap in the range, as the Explosif was made of Easton 7000 series scandium in those years). Surprising in a way that this example has survived as NOS for 14 years...

Fork Suggestions - Orange Evo2 Rebuild

Re: The RC36 had disc tabs from the 2000 Evo III onwards. Or you could also get bolt-on tabs to fit a 1999 RC36 Evo II (it had straight legs, unlike the earlier ones), although you might struggle to find some.
