rBoTM RBotM July 2023 - Open Month - Enter now!

I would like to show one the projects I've learned most , as the bikes from that era were really unknown to me. I've received very great help from this forum while restoring it. I believe it is an Orbea Super Professional from mid-late 30's. Here the link to project

What clear coat would you recommend?

Just tried this spray wax today. Results were similar IMO to the regular wax I have (Dooyo with little carnuba) but much easier to apply. Important to wipe off excess before gets dry otherwise takes a lot of time with the microfiber to remove it. I guess the key to get better results is to use...

What clear coat would you recommend?

but this is expoxy resin 2k clear coat , not ceramic coat right ? don't want to apply new clear coat, that's difficult in experience, and will loose patina in my opinion. that's what I'm trying to preseve with ceramic or wax ultimately

What clear coat would you recommend?

Thanks for the feedback I understand problem can be to apply evenly on larger surfaces, but on a steel bike maybe it is easy ? I 've used carnuba wax based for a long time with very good results, although not very durable and also not fully rust protector on chips to bare metal. I'm fascinated...

What clear coat would you recommend?

let me insist about ceramic coatings, as I've got a new colnago super from the 70's I want to protect as much as possible. In the past I used wax, but now there are ceramic coatings widely used in the car industry, has anyone tried any ?

Bianchi Aluminium Mega Pro XL 1998 differences ?[Pantani]

thanks @loepzuiver2023 and @otherself , that is a very good source! It seems then the most desirable is the ProXL with SC61, but the key here is the XL, with rectangular chain stays and without braze on FD. So no much difference between 7005 and SC61 aluminium versions ? I understood 7000 was...

any info on SIMPLEX Gran Sport rear derailleur?

Hi there, I'm the owner . An early Export 61 but I'm affraid could not get too much details... Likely produced somewhere out of France, in a country where Intellectual Property laws were not strict in the 50's-60's... Very rare so maybe a Japanese collector pays a lot of money for it ;)

What clear coat would you recommend?

Does anyone have experience also with ceramic coating ? used in the car industry, now also being applied to furniture seems to provide protection against scratches...

What clear coat would you recommend?

I'd apply just wax. You can find some small pots with little carnuba from the car industry

    Shimano DuraAce/XT & XTR 8 speed compatibility

Hi, going through the same, but does anybody know why in Shimano tech specs they say old XT RDs like m735, m739 and even 9 speed 105 RD 1056 do not work with DA shifters ?? (here an example for 1056 but it says the same for old 8 speed XT RD (not for 9 speed ones like m750 and m770)

    Fondriest Columbus EL

Very nice. Good thing about the 8 speed and shimano is that you can easily get bigger cogs and a rear mech hanger extender to go uphills.

    8 speed campag rd options

Is there any particular reason not to use a campy RD ? If you want to go more than 26 cogg, you can try a rear hanger extender.

Would love to hear your opinion on a vintage Serena

If it helps I asked time ago a quotation to replace a rear drop out (just one) and the price I got offered from a frame builder (basically some one who know how to do it properly...) was 300 euros. (I was providing the drop out that was another 30 euro) .
