Frozen Campag locknut - HELP !!!!

I've managed to shift one of these by using a combination of heat and cold. I have one of those small Benzomatic blowtorches that refill from butane lighter gas and I used this to heat up the lockring. No need to wrap the frame tubes, the heat transfer through the headset is minimal. When I'd...

Bottom bracket length for C Record chainset

Inner ring, which is a 39 tooth is about 11mm from the chainstay but I've done some more detailed measurements using a digital caliper. OLN is exactly 130mm, cassette is 38.5mm wide and there's 4mm from the small chainring to the outer edge of the locknut. This gives a cassette centre chainline...

Bottom bracket length for C Record chainset

I've just fitted a C Record chainset (the one where one of the 5 spider arms sits behind the crank) to my new Roberts build and the chainline is clearly not correct, chainrings are too far out from the frame. The bb I used is 111mm in length, which I assumed from reading up would be correct for...

WTD: Pair of 700c 36 hole clincher rims

I'm on the cusp of completing my Roberts dream bike but the wheels are giving me grief. I've got a pair of Campy 8 speed wheels, very nice cassette hubs but trhey are laced to GP4s and I don't wan to run tubs on this bike. So, I'm looking for a pair of high quality 700c clincher rims, 36 hole...

    Replacement brake adjusters?

How many times do you see otherwise nice older brakesets that have one or both of the cable adjusters missing? Pi**es me off no end because try as I might there doesn't seem to be a good source of decent looking replacement parts at a reasonable price. Anyone know of any suppliers? Gordon

    Catalogue 1997 Vitus Catalogue

I've never seen one of these before, got it when I bought a 979 from an ebayer some time ago and finally got round to scanning it. If the mods want to put this in the archive I'm happy for it to be moved there but I'll leave it available on my wife's webspace for a few weeks in any case. Gordon

    Help a layman - 120 hub to 126 frame

Just had a thought, you're building this up as a fixie? If the Alan frame is anything like many others I've seen the dropouts are short and near vertical, which means they do not lend themselves to running fixed as there's almost no scope to adjust chain tension. Obviously I could be barking up...

    Help a layman - 120 hub to 126 frame

If this is a bonded Alan frame I would suggest you do not try to squeeze the rear forks, respacing these frames runs the risk of damage. Gordon

    Vitus Chrono Fourche alloy forks

I have a 1997 Vitus catalogue and the Chrono forks are listed in it. They were available in both 700c and 650c sizes and with 145, 170, 195, 220 or 245mm steerers. Supplied as standard on the Titane and AC26 models and as an option on the 979, 797 and CAT3. The logo is the yellow Vitus V and two...

Dream bike on its way at last!

But that's always a risk with retro components, and if I couldn't accept it I wouldn't be into such builds and nor would many others on this forum. I actually have a spare set of 8 speed ergos, as they're Mirage I don't want to put them on this bike, but if pushed, on they'd go. At least if I go...

Dream bike on its way at last!

Thanks for the nice comments guys, this is one build I am really, really looking forward to. The finished bike is likely to get plenty of summer use so I'm going with 8 speed Ergos, Record if I can get them, but Chorus if I can't. I understand that prior to 1995 Campagnolo didn't put the model...

    MA40 or similar rims

I've got a nice pair of early Veloce 8 speed hubs, 36 hole that I want to use to build a quality set of wheels for my latest build, a Chas Roberts. I'm looking for something like MA40s or similar quality, must be either unused or barely used. May consider a complete wheelset but it must be...

Dream bike on its way at last!

I think the decision has been made for me as I've just bought a lovely condition C Record chainset, so it has to be Record all round, or as close as I can get to it. I still think that monoplanar brakes are the best looking calipers around so I may have to compromise and fit Chorus calipers...

Dream bike on its way at last!

Many years ago I used to live about 50m from Chas Roberts shop when he was in Penge and every time I passed the window a thin stream of dribble used to run down my chin, but there was no way an impoverished student was ever going to be able to afford one of his bikes. Fast forward 35 or so...

The official BONDED BICYCLE thread !

They are absolutely lethal, your best move would be pack that Allez into a stout cardboard box and send it to me for proper disposal as it is illegal to get rid of one without the proper licence. Any components that have come into contact with the frame will also be affected so best to include...
