FSA Ultimax BB installation sanity check

I think your cups must've got swapped over at some point. My Ultimax Ti installed conventionally. The flanged cup installs first, from the drive side, and is normally attached to the unit. The L and R on the shell should point to the non-drive and drive side of the bike respectively. That seems...

M900 SG-X chainring - when did it come out?

Ah ... is it just that the "extra lip/ridge" is a feature of the 48t SG-X XTR ring, but not the 46t, because the 48t has the extra diameter to accommodate that extra machining? Don't mind me.

M900 SG-X chainring - when did it come out?

It's interesting to note that the XTR SG-X rings in the '93 catalogue resemble the XT rings in that they lack the "extra lip/ridge" mentioned above: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... R.jpg.html Are these rings ever seen in the wild, or had they been superseded in production by the...

M900 SG-X chainring - when did it come out?

Here's a M900 set on sale in Japan. The cranks are stamped PL (December '91) but the outer ring (SG-X) is RF (June '93): https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/e305005226 This SG-X ring is stamped RB (February '93): https://bikemarkt-images.mtb-news.de/ls ... -large.jpg It's interesting that...

M900 SG-X chainring - when did it come out?

1993. It's in this '93 catalogue: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... gues/1993/ Not in '92, obviously, as that was the first year of XTR.

NOS-NIB Record, Dura Ace and 600-Ultegra headsets

French headsets normally have a washer with one flat edge that corresponds to a flat side on the steerer: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Qz0AAOSw ... -l1600.jpg Other headsets usually used a tabbed washer that fits into a groove in the steerer. Here's a French Shimano headset with a...

My first build thread Kona Explosif eBay frame find

Mocked up with a few bits and pieces that were lying around: https://www.flickr.com/photos/24213822@N05/27543422908 It'll probably end up fairly restrained - XT/XTR, Ritchey, Sugino, San Marco, Race Face, Thomson, TA. More to follow.

    What Campagnolo is this?

It was the cheapest mech they made at the time. Nothing wrong with it though. Solid and functional. Think Shimano 105.

Help identify Brodie model and year

Lovely bike. Have you checked the component date codes? Shimano parts have a two-letter date code which - assuming the group set is original - would give you a terminus post quem for assembly. http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Japan/ ... _codes.htm Easy to find on the backs of the cranks, for...

Older Kona Jake the Snake road bike

Looks like a Y2K: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... 2.JPG.html That fits the H9 (1999 build date) serial number. Value? Dunno. It's had a few good upgrades (Thomson seatpost, XT brakes) but it's hard to judge the overall condition, and your pictures omit most of the components. The...
