    Which Saracen? - shed find.

I'd guess it's a '93/'94 transitional Tufftrax. Saracen may have been using up stock of Exage components prior to the arrival of STX and Alivio in '94. Nothing very special, but it looks like a decent mid-range bike.

Wanted: Avid SAAGO stem 120mm silver

Looking for an Avid SAAGO stem, 120mm in silver. NOS or close to it preferred. A UK seller would probably be easiest. Alternatively, a friendly Swiss or US-based Retrobiker who could help me obtain one and re-post: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264281121831...

    1996 Stumpjumper (rigid / steel)

This '97 model went just last week for £80 collected: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=398319 I think that's cheap. This '97 went unsold at £140 a few years ago: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=356991 Yours looks to be in nice condition. To the right buyer, £160 might be fair, but these often seem to go for less...

Does anyone know anything about GENETIC road bikes/frames?

Re: Re: Is it just lens distortion? They look to me like double-taper (fusiform or bi-conical) seatstays, which would normally be fitted with the short taper uppermost, the fattest section at the brake bridge, and the long taper at the bottom. http://www.henryjames.com/columbus-prod ...

Does anyone know anything about GENETIC road bikes/frames?

Re: Re: Plus mudguard eyelets on a race frame, and seatstays that look to have been fitted upside down! The number on the bottom bracket is just the maker's code for the shell - a Long Shen LB-01: http://www.longshen.com.tw/eng_product.asp?Fid=F000008

What pads for Mavic X517 rims

"Grey" MAVIC rims could be either ceramic or CD ("couche dure" - hard layer). CD rims have a uniform smooth shiny grey colour over the entire surface of the rim. Ceramic rims have a rough, dark grey coating on the brake surfaces only, and usually have a "CERAMIC" sticker. The other surfaces of a...

    StumpJumper (or is it?)

Re: Re: By the time V-brakes arrived in '96, steel Stumpjumpers had gone oversized: fatter seat tubes and seatposts, and 1 1/8" steerers, plus suspension-corrected forks. Rear brake bridges were last seen in '92, after which there was a guide noodle at the seat junction. Those stay ends have...

    StumpJumper (or is it?)

It's interesting that the seat collar seems to be separate, rather than a brazed-on one. I don't know of a steel Stumpjumper with a separate collar, so it's probable the original was removed, and the brake cable guide noodle could have gone at the same time, just before the respray. 1" threaded...

MAVIC 637 Paris Gao Dakar cranks - BLACK!

To me the pedals seem bricolées. There isn't a really clear picture of them, but they look to me to be a set of standard 640 road pedals with the original cages cut down, and a new set of home-made half-cages bolted on. Prototype or bricolage? It's certainly a fascinating ensemble, but taken...

Which shifters marry up to Ultegra 6400 Uniglide 6S - SORTED

Re: Which shifters marry up to Ultegra 6400 Uniglide 6S cassett? Six and seven speed versions were certainly far more common. Cheaper 5-speed bikes stuck with freewheel hubs, and the higher end bikes that used freehubs tended to come with more gears. The 1982 catalogue here lists a bewildering...

    Help identify cyclocross frame

I think it could well be a custom build. The short serial number suggests a small builder, and details like the internal brake cable route and dynamo lever boss would be unusual in a production touring frame. Beyond that, I've no suggestions.

Which shifters marry up to Ultegra 6400 Uniglide 6S - SORTED

Re: Which shifters marry up to Ultegra 6400 Uniglide 6S cassett? The 14t locking sprocket makes it a junior racing (restricted gear) set. Shimano continued to manufacture them in Uniglide long after their other systems had migrated to HG or IG. http://bernd.sluka.de/Fahrrad/Shimano/T ...

Which shifters marry up to Ultegra 6400 Uniglide 6S - SORTED

Re: Which shifters marry up to Ultegra 6400 Uniglide 6S cassett? Dura-Ace hubs were 8-speed Uniglide at one point. As far as I know that was the only 8-speed Uniglide system Shimano made. https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/ev/EV-FH-74 ... 8-0957.pdf http://www.disraeligears.co.uk/Site/00_ ...
