    Are modern bikes overpriced?

^^ That. ^^ Many modern mid- and entry-level bikes that an average biker might be able to afford are over-weight monoliths with crap forks and horrible everything. Technological trickle-down should have given that segment of the market great bikes at affordable prices. Shifting and...

Kona go for the retro look with 2013 29ers.

After changing their logo every year, it looks like Kona decided to use them all for 2013. They should just stick with the 1995-era serif font on that 29er; they never bettered that logo. Nice bike, too (still not convinced about those oversize headtubes/steerers, though)

2012 FTW Yeti Pro FRO S Prototype Replica

Er... Wow. Did it take a lot of persuasion to get FTW to make it? Did he decide to change the original at all? (Sorry - there may be very obvious changes - but I only looked through the pics quickly)

    Cooks Spider question

They're definitely not plastic & definitely are removable, because I have a spare NOS one sitting here... As there were spare spiders available, presumably there's a simple method for owners to swap them over. Sorry that I can't be of more help, but I'm currently in a different country to my...

Paging Saltyman! ( FATBIKE content! )

I was about to go in the other direction, and buy some skinny type tires for this so-called "summer". But it looks like that wheel MIGHT just fit the front of my bike (On-One carbon fork), which has 90mm between fork legs & about 70mm clearance between a Big Apple & the fork crown...

    Cannondale Mojo?

Not a Cannondale of any description. Those stickers probably cost more than the frame is worth. Pub bike?

    Klunkerz Discs in the U.K.

^^Agreed^^ Get your money out! I got my copy yeeeeears ago, when it was first on DVD (maybe from Charlie the Bikemonger?). It's an awesome piece of work, and stands many repeated viewings.

Is this a custom painted hei hei?

Keep the paint. Of the fancy 'factory' paint schemes that Kona offered on the Hots, this flame-job is way nicer than the 'star & bars'. And as this is a Ti frame painted like a Hot, it MIGHT have been a team frame at some point...? I'd swap my bare Ti Hei Hei for a factory flame-job...

    Lawwill cruiser

The Cleland was way more usable; Not to mention that the shipping seems intended to deter non-US bidding... Could afford the bike, but won't pay that shipping (shipping alone is about 13X what I paid for my first cruiser )

    26er or 29er

My only modern bikes is a rigid 29er. I love the retro stuff but, as a bike to be "ridden" this is the first bike that actually fits me. I realized that the first time I tried one, and bought my own within a few months. No more of this:

I hate not being able to say NO!!!

I don't remember the geometry on the Burners being so insanely bad. But I guess the photos don't lie  In retrospect, I'm going to use that as the reason for never winning a race on mine

    Grove X-frame 29er

Roy, that's heartbreaking. My condolences go out to everyone involved with that amazing bike. But glad to read that you're OK.

The scrapping of old bikes ! *****YIKES *****

Not sure, but you know what they say: If you want to know the time — ask a cop; If you want to know the law — ask a lawyer.

The scrapping of old bikes ! *****YIKES *****

Scrap merchants are scum, IME. And don't get me started on the ones who somehow dragged a wrapped and hidden VW engine (mid-restoration) past several cars and out of our driveway, never to be seen again. And yes, their "green" argument is BS, because the recycling option is waaay down the...

Teesdale Kona Haole 52-54 w/ Suntour Superbe

I didn't know Tom Teesdale made custom road frames for Kona, alongside the MTBs. This one's unridden, apparently. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINT-new-52-cm-90s-Kona-Haole-MADE-IN-USA-SunTour-Superbe-Tom-Teesdale-built-/221020461323

    Bill Grove......

I saw it earlier, in my Google Reader inbox. It's taken a while... But: I remember the earlier close-ups of some of the details/workmanship; It's gonna be insanely great. I heard Rody's wait list is quite looooong now. I should have been brave (or not so poor) & got on the list a...
