What a wonderful post, I read your intro post and love seeing people doing something for others where possible. Far too much negativity in the world and far too many forums where people are only in it for the cash or to put others down. Both of which is why I enjoy RB and Retro mountain biking.

I had a Carerra Vortice BITD, and now have a Saracen Special Edition, which looks identical. As far as I know, from research, they were both built by Merida.

Finished the Team Saracen Special Edition yesterday. New seat, original tyres and swapped the terrible crank out for a LX with annodised blue chainrings. My understanding is that these frames were made by Merida, it seems very similar to the Carrera Vortice I bought new in 1997. Nice cheap...

The top tube of the swingarm on my all silver one is the original swingarm. But they proved to an achilles heel. So they strengthened them. So the one on your Rift Zone and my silver and orange one is the later stronger version.

I bought one last year but it was the Large size. Swapped the front triangle for the medium one (with orange Manis and swingarm). The silver and white 1997 I bought summer last year as was looking for a smaller version, that one is small but is a nice size to ride. I remember seeing the advert...

My two, all original 1997 (small) and a 1998 (medium). Thinking about selling the 1998, as two is being greedy and I want to get an E-stay frame to build.

Id say 86. 87 was the pearl white with all black decals. 88 was lilac to pearl white fade.

Just echoing all the other praising comments on here. Lovely build you did there. Sometimes trying to modernise retro bikes just come out wrong. But not in this case. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

that looks fooking lovely!! Great build and great colour. I still cant see why people want a modern bike over a classic, in this price range.

I've seen that one aswell hahaha There are a couple about, I'm weighing up my options. I dont need another project, but cant help myself.
