    Mystery and Unidentified Parts

Its a Sachs, or rather '99 or later SRAM. Plasma. https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/Manufacturer+Archive/SRAM/1999/1999+-+SRAM+3.jpg.html Edit joglo was faster. :D

I cracked - Kona Kontent (scabby 94 Cinder Cone).

Good looking bike despite coming out of the parts bin. Also only took 9 years 😁

    Antwack's KLEIN Pulse

Me personally, I think it fits this part of the forum quite nicely. No rear sus. No disk brakes. No weirdly shaped frame tubing...

    Antwack's KLEIN Pulse

I'd say its 97 or 98, but I'm not too sure. 96 would have had bottle cage mounts underneath the lower tube. And in 99 there was no Pulse mentioned in the catalogue any more...

    Antwack's KLEIN Pulse

Nice looking project. I like it. The frame seems to be a "pulse comp" Trek era frame. The pre Trek pulses (and the Pulse IIs ) had internal cable routing. About the "missing" canti hanger, you can buy seat clamps with integrated stops. Or use one of those stops that are attached to/by the seat...

    XT M732 Plastic Cover Query

They are underneath the clear wrap.

    XT M732 Plastic Cover Query

They are not meant to peel. In bad cases I have successfully peeled them and replaced them with a car wrap type of protective wrap. In even worse cases I glued a coca-cola or beercap on top of the XT-cap. And lastly, as a last resort, I made new Aluminium covers on my lathe. Pics for inspiration:

What's the used vintage bike market like where you live?

We just had that same discussion at the German classic forums. Seems to me, that all that money printing is showing its ugly side effects. People struggle to pay the bills. Food and basic necessities become more and more expensive. The rent! The stuff that you can't postpone to buy. No money...

What are your retro bike plans for 2024.

I want to tidy up my cave. And the garage, too. Not sure I'll make it though. I started yesterday by goin' downstairs and looking at the mess for a few minutes. Then tactical retreat. I need to regroup and make more plans, I guess. Watch a few vids on the YT about DIY shelving and cheap...

9 Speed Crank Set on a 7 Speed front Derailleur.

Ok. So I indeed misunderstood your question. I never had the problem, that a 8spd chain would rub on the neighboring crank chainrings. Although that may be due to me usually not using the full "range" of gears. I tend to avoid the "extremes" like smallest front to smallest rear. I do remember...

9 Speed Crank Set on a 7 Speed front Derailleur.

Why did you want to use a 9spd chain on a 7spd setup? If everything other than the crank is 7spd, even the cassette, just use a 7/8spd chain and be happy. 7spd cassette+ 9spd chain is not a good match. Except you have 9spd chain already on the shelf, but don't have the 20 quid to buy a new...

9 Speed Crank Set on a 7 Speed front Derailleur.

7/8 speed chain on a 9 speed set is no good. Because the 8spd chain is slightly thicker than 9spd. It works, but the shifting quality is bad. The front derailleur is no problem though. I had M732 XT type front and rear derailleurs paired with a 9speed cassette+chain and M960 (XTR 9spd) STI set...

Why do we want rare, complicated stuff?! Amp forks kupput

Oh, I forgot. Did you write, what version of fork you have? The one shown above or the older version with just one spring inside the parallelogram? I somehow thought you had the latter. Shortening a coil doesn't change the stiffness. It just reduces the travel. Unless it's a progressive spring...

Why do we want rare, complicated stuff?! Amp forks kupput

Get yourself just about any cheap rear coilover shock, cut to length and you're golden.

GT RTS rocker pivots play or no play

The rocker has press in ball bearings. Close to no play, if they are new. But you can swap them. Iirc they are standard parts that are also used in Rollerblade wheels. Or was it skateboards?

Ah, there it is. So I wasn't wrong.

    Kastle degree 9 0 FS

Well, about history. One of those frames has a bit of history, if I remember correctly. Some kind of speed record was made with it. Or was it an attempt? But they "hid" the frame in a aerodynamic (yellow) fiberglass shell. I remember seeing the original bike at a private collection in Germany...

    Kastle degree 9 0 FS

It is called "degree FS", I think. 9 or 10, not sure. The whole rear end kinematic reminds me very much of a GT RTS. Its a single pivot point and a rocker arm to link the swingarm to the dampener. Even has the "brake stud". I have a RTS myself. I don't really like the ride, because the pedal...
