More boing for the buck! Free Scott Unitrack DH - Welding done!

Cobbled it back together, using some random washers I ground to size. So the rear now works reasonably well, I think. On the bench at least. Used a Rock shox Judy (I think) boot to keep the dirt away. I especially like the phase where you just hang parts onto the frame to find a look that...

More boing for the buck! Free Scott Unitrack DH - Welding done!

Putting together the rear is revealing quite a few problems with the design of that frame. It seems to me, that the build quality was not good enough at the time. Or maybe the frame had some kind of accident in the past. But I don't think it had, as there are no dents or major scratches that...

Quick li'l update. After making the that welded ring round again, I put the rear triangle back onto the frame. But it would not turn. It was very very hard to slide the rings - both sides, not only my repaired side - onto the bronze bushings. I thought that can't be right and took it all apart...

I then filed and ground down the inner weld. The ring was a little oval shaped after the welding was done. So I made a pin that loosely fit the opposite undamaged side. Then "massaged" the welded side until the pin was fitting in. Then I used a marker to blue the inside of the ring. After...

The story continues. After practicing for a little more, I just could't wait to start on that scott frame. I'm waay too unpatient! So. Here is my attempt. First cleaned the crack as much as I could. Using Emery cloth, a knife and brake cleaner. Then a file. Outer: Inner: And after...

    Cunningdale Plan B

I'd say that is a general problem of those high profile cantis. I have that exact problem with those brakes, regardless what rim I'm driving. It's the reason they invented the "low profile" cantis a few years later. Cool build, btw. I like the looks of your rims. :D

Ok. That totally makes sense in a practical, logical way. ... .. . But it still hurts.

Do you really want to waste a freshly painted frame with Altus parts? I mean - I'm confused. Wouldn't it be better to not paint the frame an get some DX or XT parts instead if you're tight on money? Altus - Those are parts I would suggest to put on a beater bike. One that is used to take it to...

Welder get! I have to say. There is a lot more stuff you need to buy besides the actual welder. Expensive stuff. Gas+armature, hoses and fittings and stuff, a helmet, gloves. Then there are the consumables like the filler rods, that depend on what kind of metal you want to weld. Well. You've...

Well. That went down the drain really fast! Took apart the rear. I was quite happy at first because I was able to crack all the bolts loose with no effort. Even though they did not look like they would. Then I found first - uhm - toolmarkings made by some hero mechanic. Ok, no big deal. You...

New build coming up. Some nice guy at the german forums karma'd that interesting and - so it seems to me - quite rare frame into my man cave. As I am a sucker for those odd early suspension bikes I am really excited to have it. I think, this will be a rather slow build as I don't have hardly any...

    Scott catalogues...

Hi there. I am wondering. Why is there not a single Scott catalogue in the archives? I have attatched a few I have on my drive, ranging from 89 to 99. Maybe someone could add them to the archive at some point? Cheers!

    Shimano Deore Thumbshifter Rebuild/Mod Guide

I'm not sure, but usually those mods involve mounting the cable in a different place, like below the mounting plate instead of above. The goal is to get the mounting point closer the the rotational center if you want to have the same movement with less cable pull.

Help request - IDing a Klein frame

Yes. And it is likely that the corresponding cable stop up front is drilled through, too.

Help request - IDing a Klein frame

Yea. Definitely a pinni. Has been drilled out for a Magura or V-brake. Shame. The color doesn't look original to me. Klein did not paint over the bb. Or the headset coups, for that matter. They did paint over the bottle cage bolts and the cable guide beneath the bb though. Have a look out for...

Stop talking about the tires! Are u mad? The valve is all crooked and all you talk about are the tires?? Do you have no shame? I'm disgusted. Appalling! You ruined my youth! How dare you! (Seriously pretty bike. I'm impressed. And a little jealous. :D )

I hid my answer (lengthy) to your question somewhere in that thread: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/rat-klein-pinnacle-build-selfmade-parts-content.440507/ The short version: I already have too much money and not having enough time is my biggest concern. Also I want to keep this a hobby...

    Magura help needed

I broke two of them... And it was the same situation. Stuck hook thingie. I now use an adjustable spanner to hold the part. Or the vice with soft jaws.
