    Show us your AMP stuff.

Seem we're missing this thread, so I just start one. :D Made a rather large haul for rather stupid money yesterday. Had to drive basically one whole day to get the stuff. So I'll have to show it RIGHT NOW! B3, B4, B5 including the proper folding forks. Some funny brakes. Some even more funny...

    1996 GT LTS-2

Today, I'ma go on a little tangent. As I don't seem to have enough enthusiasm to start sanding and polishing... So here for you, episode 1 of "Things you better do before putting all back together" - Wipe your bottom clean. I mean, the bottom bracket. Many guys don't seem to know - I surely...

    1996 GT LTS-2

Decided to start with the bearings. Today, the lower front bearing. Though I could buy one at betd.co.uk, they seem too pricey, especially with shipping to Germany... Those bushings of the LTS's are kind of funny. Aluminium cones that "lock" inside the frame and rotate against Teflon (?)...

    1996 GT LTS-2

The fork is back together. I fit Hydracoil steel springs instead of the crumbled ECUs. And a dampening cartrige in both legs instead of just one. With previous coil conversions I always had the feeling that the one cartridge was not enough dampening. These are the parts that did not go back...

    1996 GT LTS-2

That seems about right. There is just a few more little details. ;) I made some more pictures for clarification: The most critical part is obviously that puller plate -I call it plate for lack of a better word... I made it out of a larger washer using a lathe. The outer diameter of that plate...

Judy XC / DH differences and how to do a coil conversion the right way ?

@ishaw "create an imbalance in size between the damper and neutral shaft which has ultimately allowed the damper to get over extended and pop open" Maybe I really don't understand. But isn't what you're saying the same to what I'm trying to say? I'm not talking about compression travel. I'm...

Judy XC / DH differences and how to do a coil conversion the right way ?

@kokies I'm sorry, but I think, you did not fully understand my question. I don't have a DH, I have a XC. I should have pointed that out more clearly in my text. It's a '96 with 60mm travel and Aluminium cartridge. I am quite sure, those forks limit travel by the neutral shaft, because if you...

Judy XC / DH differences and how to do a coil conversion the right way ?

Hi there. I'm currently in the process to resurrect and modify a '96 Judy. One of its legs - the one with the neutral shaft - is badly corroded. But I have a spare one. I also have a set of steel springs taken out of a '99 Hydracoil Judy and a second aluminium dampening cartridge. The last time...

    1996 GT LTS-2

Out comes the upper bushing. I have a makeshift tool, that I've been using for the last few years. It did not make it this time though. The corrosion inside the casting was just too much and the puller plate bent while pulling the lower bushing. I guess I'll have to make another one. I should...

Just a s I thought. The gray stuff is crumbled ECUs. But the white powder, thats Magnesiumoxide. And some Aluminiumoxide, too, I guess. I do have a spare leg, luckily. But no spare casting. So I'll have to try and swap the bushings.

    1996 GT LTS-2

Now for the parts. I recently got my dirty hands on a very nice donor bike. It's a Centurion from the same year (I think) as the LTS, so 1996ish. It has Maguras, XT M739 drivetrain, Flite, Gripshift SRT800s, a rather nice Hügi wheelset and a very collapsed Judy XC in (DH color). That's 80% of...

    1996 GT LTS-2

I have too many bikes! Really. Now there will be one more, I guess. I'm having way too much fun... As some may have seen, I'm currently building my LTS Thermoplast. It has a very wired defect at the rear axle mount. It looks like someone has drilled or filed the slot for the axle. And while...

1996 GT LTS Thermoplast - Will I ever...

First test drive. Bike needs a lot of tweeking still. Fork looses most of its air over a few days... But overall , I'm happy. The bikes rides really smooth.

    Projects Waiting for Spring

I have the same problem here. Scott Unitrack DH Project waiting for 15° minium. Also I'm cheap but decent two part clear coat isn't. I planned to spray my frame and the front light beam glasses on my Mercedes (SL 500 R230 cabriolet) at the same time. So I don't waste the clear coat spray cans...

    Polishing clear-coated aluminium parts

I use automotive wax after polishing. Prevents the metal to get dull too fast. Has to be freshend up each spring though.

How to clean an oxidised front mech

Open bin, put scaled mech in bin. Buy mech in good nick for 30 bucks. If the chrome parts are scaly, there is not much you can do. If the clamp/aluminium parts are oxidized, you can try and sand them down (if pitted) and polish. It's a lot of work though..

No more bikes! Buy's another bike. Share your shame thread

I suggest you don't get into cars then. Bikes are a cheap hobby, I'm telling you! And if you are into cars, at least keep it to -dunno- fiat 500s or something. Definitively don't buy some fancy german car from the early 2thousands. They will rob you blind!

1996 GT LTS Thermoplast - Will I ever...

I do still have the original shock and it's in good nic. But I like air springs and I like experiments. So I did what I did... What I don't understand is the trunnion part. My frame doesn't have that. And they are not interchangable, I don't think. Or can you mount the trunnion mount to the...
