NEW TI RALEIGH 753 40TH TDF ANNIVERSARY MODEL

Are you actually reading what I wrote? Raleigh haven't allowed for fatter tyres. The rear clearance on this frame is the same as SBDU which is 45mm - that is Piccolo brakes and period racing tubs. The new frame has 45mm on the rear and 50mm on the front - if you think the 50mm is an intentional...

NEW TI RALEIGH 753 40TH TDF ANNIVERSARY MODEL

These are the issues with the anniversary bike 1. The top tube slops by 15mm - my frame stands at 81.5cm at the head lug to the level ground. the frame measures 80cm at the seat lug to the level ground - same rims, same tyres, same pressure 2. The front brake drop - centre of bolt to centre of...

NEW TI RALEIGH 753 40TH TDF ANNIVERSARY MODEL

There are a combination of factors... They have taken page 2 of a document with Joop's geometry which has 560 seat tube, but page 1 says that measurements are centre to centre. Raleigh have applied this 560 as centre to top. They also have too long a head tube, maybe 10mm taller. They also...

NEW TI RALEIGH 753 40TH TDF ANNIVERSARY MODEL

The paint finish is nice and smooth but a little thick, so things like the frame number aren't sharp and crisp. One of my options is to build it - I'd build it with new Ultegra. I'm sure it will ride really well. Alternatively, if I wanted to see what could be done, I can work on it a little...

    Hennie Kuiper's TI-Raleigh 1976 Team Bike Frame Number HK276

That is a very different style of seat stay fastening and very different date to the Ilkeston material. I think that is Dave Rayner's 89 bike

    SB9

SB9 returned to the UK this week after a lifetime in the US. After 3 days and approx 3500 miles, SB9 was in my collection. It is original paint and transfers and has all of the original Super Record components. The paint and transfers are in amazing condition and just covered in thick...

    Hennie Kuiper's TI-Raleigh 1976 Team Bike Frame Number HK276

Re: Re: Sadly that is Raleigh marketing blurb, I wouldn't call it primary source. The text describes a Services des Courses frame but the image isn't. As the text correctly explains, the SDC is full Cinelli with fork crown, BB and lugs - however, the frame in the image has Prugnat lugs, nice...

    Jason McRoy's Salsa ala carte

I can't be sure, but possibly (and you would really need to check, as this is such a long time ago), 3ttt - possibly Pro Compe. That is what came into my mind. We built with lots of stuff we had in the shop to supplement the handful of bits he was given by NTi If you look at the image, you can...

    Jason McRoy's Salsa ala carte

If you want originality then I can send an original varnish fix DC head badge that we fitted to the disc and a black vinyl DENTON that was placed down the front of the seat tube. I only have a few of these remaining. These are from the same shop drawer and from the same last batch that would...

    Jason McRoy's Salsa ala carte

I'm thinking some kind of Bontrager rim, sorry I can't be more specific. You can see it has quite a deep brake surface and a very square section

Thank you. All my statements about the SBDU are from primary source material.

    Hennie Kuiper's TI-Raleigh 1976 Team Bike Frame Number HK276

It depends how pedantic we want to get on this really... The term 'Pro Super' was also used with the term 'Pro'. In 84 they did both the '531 Pro' and '531 Pro Super'. The 531 Pro had no chrome choices and the 531 Pro Super had the chrome options but no option of full paint. So the use of the...

    Hennie Kuiper's TI-Raleigh 1976 Team Bike Frame Number HK276

Yep, I've been tagged in this one a couple of times. You are right, it's not a Pro Super, that model tended to have Prugnat lugs and a fast back, with of course 531P tubing. This is a 531c Services des Courses. They did so many of these chrome 531P/531c frames in 1984/85 - all chrome or just...

    Hennie Kuiper's TI-Raleigh 1976 Team Bike Frame Number HK276

Yes, seen that one - a great example of how not to photograph a bike for a sale advert. A braze on number plate hanger was an SBDU option so they crop up from time to time.

    Hennie Kuiper's TI-Raleigh 1976 Team Bike Frame Number HK276

It could be either 26.8 or 27 depending on what gauge of 753 they used. As it is a large frame, it has a high chance of being 26.8 (but not guaranteed). The thicker gauge kept some stiffness at the expense of a tiny bit of weight.
