    Who built John Fern frames?

I believe that 753 had to be silver soldered rather than brass fillet brazed, so that might be one way to tell? I'm here because I knew John Fern back in the day as I grew up in Coalville. Bought my first 'mountain' bike from him, which was basically an adapted beach cruiser 🤣 Also, my dad...

What’s the one bike you really want but cant find, etc

One day, I'd like to try a Mountain Goat with R.A.D. geometry… it's where my moniker comes from, after all. Also something 26" retro titanium - possibly a softtail - for bikepacking / mountain touring duties.

Which retro mtb suited for bikepacking

Tange Prestige and similar tubings are just as strong as heavier tubes, but are lighter because they can be made thinner, usually because of a combination of the alloy composition and heat treating. However, thinner walls can lead to more risk of damage in roughty-toughty conditions, but unless...

Which retro mtb suited for bikepacking

Funny you should mention that, as plans are afoot for me to convert my two middle-sized 95 FSR frames into bikepacking and mountain touring rigs. Advantages include nice big main frame triangle for framebags or head-through-the-middle portage if not carrying luggage on the bike. Nice big flat...

    Suntour gurus - advice please

You need 11?mm for MD cranks (depending on BB shell width) and 12?mm for non-MD cranks, basically. The MD versions are all 'SL', i.e. 'SuperLight', having alloy cups and axles with inserted steel bearing races, and smaller bearing balls as a result.

Burly-ish forks for 94/95 FSR frames?

Definitely in the running. Can the main bushes be replaced, or otherwise, are they long-lasting?

Burly-ish forks for 94/95 FSR frames?

As an sidebar to the main Alpine Content thread, I'm thinking of converting my two '95 FSR frames for bikepacking / off-road touring purposes. This raises the question of suitable forks for relatively burly terrain and/or luggage carrying. The first question appears to be "How much travel would...

What hi fi system you got ?

The biggest upgrade I've ever made in vinyl playback was moving to a fine-line stylus from elliptical with the 1042… bigger even than putting a Linn Sondek on a Sound Organisation table. Second-half-of-side distortion pretty much vanished, and it will take me a lot to be convinced that ANY...

So here's some background skinny… BITD I was foolish enough to look at the Trans Provence footage and think "that looks like fun" and start to do research. Approaching some of the staff who'd worked on it who were friends of friends, it was quickly made clear that the route was not for public...
