Very early MTB frame wanted, any condition

Something along the lines of a Dawes Ranger, 1st Gen Stumpjumper etc. Long wheelbase, extreme angles, probably really uncomfortable - flat top forks (not unicrown). Don't mind condition, as I'll be looking to strip and respray before rebuilding. Looking to pay UN-silly money, doesn't have to be...

    Calling all Raleigh fans

Yup, 1 fuzzy picture of a filthy, rusting bike in a barn and still hoping for £450!! Take a zero off and get real.

    1984 Dawes Ranger

Maybe too late, but if no sale agreed, I'll definitely buy, been looking for something similar for a while. 07856 423631 Paul

    Oldest mountain bike in UK?

Re: Above - to me, that sounds like the definitive answer to the original question.

Remember this absolute melt of a guy?

Differences of opinion are wonderful, but a little maturity and good manners in expressing them are normally required in any forum, public or otherwise.

    1986 Specialized Stumpjumper

One thing I'd like to change perhaps, is the stem and replace with a chrome double-clamp stem.

    1986 Specialized Stumpjumper

Picked this up recently. It's not the sport model (decal was added for decoration). But still looks smashing. I don't know how far from being 'authentic' it is though. Biopace rings, whitewall tyres etc.? Not that it really matters, but I'm just interested if anybody knows for sure. If I'm going...

    Polishing chrome wheels

Have used plenty of Autosol and plenty of tin foil/water on chrome rims. Brings them up beautifully, never any noticeable effect on braking. Don't know whether Autosol contains any sort of wax or grease, but you could finish the braking surface off with white spirit or similar if concerned...

    Oldest mountain bike in UK?

Apart from the immature bigot's postings in the middle of this thread, it's been a blast reading through. Every single late 80's prototype mountain bike on this thread makes me desperate to find something similar, not sure why, but the history and the wacky long wheelbase geometry really appeals...

    My 1998 Specialized Rockhopper

Been loving this bike for over a year now, can't get over how great it is to look at and ride. Every time I look online at the latest adventure/cyclocross steel bikepacking bikes, I just look back at this and put my credit back in my wallet.

    1955 Holdsworth Monsoon build

Thanks for asking Jamie, I'm afraid I've been too lazy building other bikes. I keep finding great little cheap frames and doing a quick rebuild. I've been finding some parts for the Monsoon and hope to get cracking with it this summer. Running out of space though, so clearing a few old bits and...

    1955 Holdsworth Monsoon build

Re: Re: Sorry, can't help you on that question. The frame is as I bought it, already resprayed. I don't know at the moment how 'original' it is. I just like it as it is though. Paul

New Build - Carlton Cobra - FINISHED - new pics

Re: New Build - Carlton Cobra Some progress on the Carlton Cobra. Cranks and gears picked, polished and on. Frame is good I think, 3 apps of Autosol and about 4 apps of Carnauba Wax. Decided to change decals on seat tube. Now onto cleaning and polishing Weinmann brake set and the stem and...

New Build - Carlton Cobra - FINISHED - new pics

Re: New Build - Carlton Cobra I've got a wheelset built with Campag Nuovo Record hubs laced up to some brand new Velo Orange PBP 27" rims which look shockingly good. I was saving them for a classic lightweight build, but I'm liking this frame so much, they are going on this instead. Currently...
