    Patina

Re: Patina is of course a polite way of describing deterioration. The holy grail bikes have most originality and least patina. Generally speaking the most serious collectors would avoid anything repainted unless it was something very special or rare. No harm in repainting a tired bike though...

High-end steel road bicycles vs carbon fiber bikes

Re: My boss owns both at pretty much the highest quality level. A carbon Pinarello Dogma F8 with Dura Ace and a stainless steel Cinelli XCR with Campag super record. Both below or around the 7kg ballpark. He says the difference is obvious. The Dogma is stiff as hell, no comfort but super...

Seems we do not exist according to the government

Re: Secretary of State for Transport and he doesn't even know the highway code? He shouldn't even have a driving license. According to wikipedia Grayling was born on 1st April. That may explain it.

    Drugs in cycling again

Re: 1. Wiggins states in his book he never had injections except normal vaccinations or whatever, then later we find out he DID have injections. 2. Those injections just happen to occur immediately BEFORE significant races. Races in which he performed well. 3. No mention of TUEs in his...

    Replacing worn rims

Re: If you select a different rim brand or model you may find the spokes are the wrong length due to varying rim depth across different designs. You only have a few milimeters of leeway on spoke length. Be aware of this. Measure the candidate new rim if possible and compare with the original...

    Racks for shopping bike conversion?

Re: Thanks for all your suggestions! In the end i went for Topeak Super Tourist DX rack which was 15 quid in Halford's clearance bin because the fixing bolts were missing, and elsewhere got a pair of Altura Arran 46L discounted to 45 pounds from 69.99, clearing their older stock. The salesman...

    Cycling: Big In Japan

Re: Here's a couple of Japan style jerseys from Y's road. Are these 26 x 2.1 tan wall Panaracers available elsewhere? I've not seen them in UK for example. I reckon they look great on older MTBs, they are fairly light (folding bead) and have road / hardpack friendly tread. The Araya Muddy Fox...

Re: The most impressive shop i found in Tokyo for modern mainstream products is "Y's Road". There are several branches around Tokyo, the one at Shinjuku is amazing. Huge range of brands (Lapierre, Felt, Colnago, BMC, Ridley, Basso, Trek, Merida, Scott, deRosa, Cannondale and more), road, TT...

Maybe similar but no, it is above another shop (see top floor of this pic), not sure the name but i bought a gimmiky half-dollar top cap in there and on the bag is stated "Riderzcafe". It's in Shibuya area of Tokyo. But "Blue Lug" is a way better place, i spent a lot of time and money in there!

Re: Police patrol. The plastic tubes at the front are for carrying lightsticks for directing traffic at night and maybe for an umbrella. Rear hub gears with gripshift type shifter. Re: Singlespeed frames are much more popular here than anywhere else i've seen. Most cheapo bikes are left unlocked, while cooler bikes are often locked but many owners leave lights and computers attached without fear of theft. Cyclists don't seem to suffer much petty crime. My friends who live...
