    Mk1 Santa Cruz Chameleon

The gearing is 10 speed SRAM X7 shifter and mech with a SRAM cassette. The older non-clutch SRAM mechs tended to have stronger springs than Shimano mechs, which were always a bit sloppy

    Mk1 Santa Cruz Chameleon

Mine is a little unusual. I am running a Hope Pro II hub in the 135mm x 12mm configuration. I drilled out the dropout to accept a 12mm axle and using a DT 12mm axle. This was mainly to secure the disc adaptor, which is held in place by the axle and a chainring bolt (I drilled an extra hole...

Stratos S8 superstar forks for my new build

I had a set of S8's on my Saracen. The action was great but they leaked constantly. I didn't keep them long.

    Mk1 Santa Cruz Chameleon

I understand the whole 'period correct' thing but chain devices were a pretty crap solution to a problem that has been resolved with clutch mechs and narrow/wide chainrings. Even without a clutch mech the N/W chainring is unlikely to drop the chain and you don't have all the weight, noise and...

1999 cannondale Martyn Ashton signature full restoration.

Being a 'budget' option when new I'm surprised any of them have survived this long

    Tomac 204 Magnum

I remember a friend getting a set of those xverts on his Intense M1 when they were new. They were so bad I thought they were broken! Manitou have moved on a long way since then

Re: Hard to see exactly what is going on in the first picture; either the shock has already disassembled itself or it is way too long for the frame

    My Azonic DS1 Project

You will likely cringe at the idea but with my mk1 Chameleon I just pushed through the cable stops with a chisel. A good sharp chisel will go through the aluminium like cheese.

    Santa Cruz Heckler -98

Re: My Chameleon. I remember lusting after them in magazines when I was a teenager. Actually ended buying this frame with a few other bits (in a much worse state) for £20

Questions on converting 26" for road use

Re: There are a variety of options for moving your existing brake posts to work with 700c wheels on ebay. Might be worth it to see if you like it before splashing out on discs

20mm through axle to 9mm QR adaptors?

Re: Sadly not. 20mm hubs are 110mm wide and qr is 100mm

    Any eBike love here?

Re: It always irritates me when there is a suggestion that someone should justify having an e-bike by being old or useless. Do you really need to justify everything you own if it's more than the bare minimum a human needs to exist? I think e-bikes are great and if they get more people out of...

    Y2K 'Pipmeister' Kona Kula

What is a tuber? Anyway, I don't agree with the generalisation that 29ers make people lazy. My 26" DH bike weighing in at 56lbs made line choice fairly irrelevant. In contrast my rigid Scott Scale 29er is pretty unforgiving if I get it wrong. Same situation with my 27.5 Lapierre Zesty...

    Y2K 'Pipmeister' Kona Kula

Re: I used to love my old kona's but after having a few 29ers I wouldn't go back. I feel like I'm riding a childs bike when I get on a 26er now!

I'm not sure but it's basically a dark blue over titanium silver to give it depth. £40 for blast and spray at my local powder coater :)
