Very nice, great colour choice. Did you go next door and order a Curtis?

Reunited with an old friend (2000 Kona Roast)

I'm surprised about the Z5's, I thought they'd be utter garbage but are very smooth.

    Kona Roast riding again

A bit of tinkering on the Roast today. I had read somewhere that the max brake size on the QR20s is 180mm, I had fitted a 200mm, so it's probably a good job that I've not riden it much. I decided to replace the no. 8 caliper with a no. 3 caliper. I thought I had a fully bled set ready to go but...

    Hope Evo cranks. Fakery?

Could be fakes, looking at ones on ebay the machining on the back looks cleaner and the crank length is engraved not etched. But it doesn't matter if they are fakes if they work, are strong, look good and were good value. If you really want to know you should ask Hope.

Reunited with an old friend (2000 Kona Roast)

Many years ago I had a 2000 Kona Roast. When I ordered it I got the bike shop to swap the forks for Z1s, which was the only change I made. I loved the bike so much I would bring it into the house so I could look at it while I watched TV. Unfortunately it got stolen and I've wanted it back ever...

Help! - Issues with vintage Marzocchi bomber fork

Just went and took a photo of my Z1 that's in bits which might help you. You should have the bushing, washer. Oil seal, circlip and then wiper seal.

Advice needed on this stuck seat post

He's a guy that just deals with stuck seatposts. When I visited he had quite a few frames sent in from bikes shops who use him rather than attempting it themselves. https://theseatpostman.com/

Advice needed on this stuck seat post

I highly recommend The Seatpost Man. He's sorted out 2 of my frames in the past.

For Sale A whole bunch of stuff I’ve hoarded for years, job lot

I'm interested in the Z1 CRs if the steer tube is a decent length.

    Curtis SuperX 2001

Did a small bit of tinkering during the week. One of the brake reservoir bolts heads was rounded, I need to change the hoses so will need access to it at some point. I used my budget rotary tool to cut a small slot in the top, this worked a treat and can now change the bolt. I also changed...

    Disc brake dilema

One of my least favourite jobs is messing around with hydraulics. It's not that it's too difficult, it's just messy and fiddly. On my current project I have some Hope M4s with lovely blue bore caps that go with the frame. But the leavers are in the European configuration so want to swap them...

    Curtis SuperX 2001

The blue does look good. The bike feels lighter than I expected too which is a bonus. I really like the blue bore caps on the brakes, I got lucky when they came up for sale.

    Curtis SuperX 2001

Did a bit more fettling today. Put the correct rear wheel on it as I had a slight issue fitting it yesterday. I then remembered that the rear caliper will only fit a 160mm disc (why did I fit a 180mm to the hub!), luckily I had a 160mm spare. So now I have a working rear brake, but using the...

    Dropout size issue

I've managed to fit the 10mm hub. I put the axle in the dodgy drop out first and then dropped in the OK side. A bit of a faff but seems to work ok. I had hoped that I wouldn't have to take out the wheel very often, but I fitted a 180mm disc and I actually need a 160mm. If it becomes a problem I...

    Dropout size issue

It's a used steel frame so it's possible it's had a knock in the past. It's just been freshly painted so I really don't want to take a file to it, but it is in a hidden area. The hanger is brand new hanger which has been drilled for lager bolts.

    Dropout size issue

Assembling a bike and the dropout is norrower at the bottom than at the top on the drive side. The bottom is 9.54mm and top is 9.95mm. Hub fits fine on the non drive side but won't go in the drive side. You can see in the picture that the dropout is slightly narrower than the hanger. What...

    Curtis SuperX 2001

I've finally started to assemble the Curtis using mostly spare parts I had lying around. Some parts I plan to change are the Z1s swapped for Z1 QR20s when they're rebuilt and XC hubs changed for Bulbs. I'm also not sure on the chainring, chain guide, tyres and I may swap the tan saddle for a...

The end is no longer nigh: Kona Bikes

A Kona was one of my first proper bikes, and I still have it. I always liked the names, they were fun, different and a bit rebellious against what other brands were doing. The sloping top tube was a big selling point for me, it helped them look like dedicated mountain bikes. Other brands looked...
