Yes, it is the underslung rear caliper. I tend to give the calipers to a professional, it's just not something I like spending time on 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for the positive response to my heinous mods 😄

I finally got round to prepping the GSXR for its overdue MOT. Over a year sat in the garden had not been kind to it. I had to replace the tail light, which led to the removal of the naff undertray (exhibit A, below) and part of the plastic fairing (exhibits B & C) to accommodate a new...

    Centre lock Vs 6 bolt?

Sounds like you need a deeper cassette lockring tool, similar to how you get deeper sockets.

    Headset question

Not sure where you're getting a measurement of 1 1/4" from, as that is only 31.75mm. As eshew says, Cotic specs say the head tube is a straight 44mm head tube that you can put zero stack (or semi integrated) cups into for a straight steerer, or an external bottom cup for a tapered steerer.

    Headset question

Or just run ZS44 top and bottom, no further reduction needed.

    Pets

We said goodbye to this boy, Murphy in April. He just made it to his 15th birthday but had to be put down due to a tumour in his nose. This is Murphy's brother Max, living his best senior life.

Does anyone know where I can buy a decent Shimano rear brake with 1500mm hose?

Do what I did and loop it around the steerer tube like a dirt jump bike. Not that I'll ever do a mad bar spin, but I didn't want to shorten the hose in case I wanted to move the brake to something else later. As others have said, cutting hoses is pretty straight forward. If you're careful you...

Advice on new fangled standards for a build (forks and wheels)

I built an Orange Stage Five 29" boost full suss trail bike during the first lock down, something of a dream build to replace my 2009 26" Five. Then this year I built an On One Vandal titanium hardtail for more XC duties and I went down the modern route for that as well. To be honest, if I...

Advice on new fangled standards for a build (forks and wheels)

Do rebas come in a 130mm? I thought the maximum was 120mm due to their 32mm stanchion diameter. That was the reason I replaced mine with Z2s.

Advice on new fangled standards for a build (forks and wheels)

I can attest to the new marzocchi being decent. I'm running a z2 on my On One Vandal hardtail, but it was £500+ brand new. That is still Fox on a budget though, and was the best value I could find. If you find one second hand you might save a bit on the new price.

Kona Cindercone 1999 - Fix up

Sorry, just noticed that this is an old thread, so that bent gear hanger is moot. Sorry to hear about the theft. I hope the bike finds its way back to you, it does happen sometimes

Kona Cindercone 1999 - Fix up

That derailleur hanger definitely does *not* look ok. Replace it, try and index the gears, and if that still doesn't work, buy a new derailleur.

    WTB I think.

Does this Hope stem look genuine?

If anything I would recommend a 5nm preset torque wrench to novices rather than experienced mechanics. I've seen novices snap/round bolts, strip threads in the aluminium stem or snap face plates. Most competent and experienced mechanics (home or shop) would know to tighten with the wrist, not...

What Nitto handlebar is it, looks awesome for klunker vibes?

Are you *sure* it's green? 😛 Looks blue to me. 😯

    Santa Cruz Chameleon (1998+)

I feel your pain with the short steerer. I've been there a few times before, never due to my own cutting, but by guesstimating the suitability of a fork I *really* want as if sheer willpower alone will stretch the steerer to a useable length. Low stack stems come up in discussions here often...

Neither a bicycle nor a motorcycle

If we are returning to a road funding tax, should the tax due not be proportional to your vehicle's impact on the road surface, not its emissions? If that were the case, EVs would (should?) be taxed more as they are generally heavier than an equivalent Dino juice car. Bicycles would still be...
