Marin Pine Mountain in Romford - FB

Yep, that's the one and agreed, the only value is in the frame (which needs a full refurb) and there is a cool Odyssey stem that looks okay. If you're lucky there are maybe some M900 XTR cantilevers up front? difficult to tell from the picture though. Interesting commentary on FB regarding the...

    Merlin 12hrs to go

That is nice, I always like seeing them with a black rigid fork up front. That low end shimano outer chainring and lack of crank dustcaps is playing havoc with my OCD though. And the rims ain't ceramic either... Will be interesting to see what the final price is - already looking strong :)

    Wanted Flexstem ( or similar) for a '96 Kilauea 1 -1/8!

Just as a heads up a '96 Kilauea will not have a 1" head tube, it will definitely be 1 1/8" for sure, so 25.4mm quill needed (or a quill adaptor/shim to suit) If you fancied something a little different you could also have a search for a Softride or a JD Components stem. They don't seem to be...

    boy"O"boy's 1989 Serotta Off-road Pro-flex prototype

Tuning in late to this one. I have every faith you'll knock it out of the park again Ben :) Don't know if they're any use but I have the renmants of another early flexstem kicking about somewhere.. There could be an elastomer there but I cannot remember. You can have all the bits as karma if...

£40 bike of mystery with Pulstar wheels, Leatherhead

On FB Marketplace... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1034913791386414/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Aaefa7a6f-d87d-4cc4-a064-de2766dfaab9 Not sure of frame, looks to have a Muddy Fox sticker on the headtube. Definitely worth it for the...

    1991 Alpinestars Al-mega XT

That's a reweld, or at the very least a precautionary bead of weld to shore up the signs of cracking. The 1991 bikes were notorious for cracking around the head tube area. The following year there was a gusset added to avoid this issue. So both overpriced and repaired at some stage....

1991 Marin £15 start [pace forks, ringle stem, xlite bar ends, pace rc130 bars]

And me as well :) Definitely heading on the last train to splitsville that one. Even the pace forks still look pretty good elastomer wise! . Here's to hoping the stem faceplate and clevis pin on the seat post aren't cracked...

1991 GT Team Avalanche on FB Marketplace

That's interesting - I thought they had just ran their fingers down the number section of their keyboard :) IMO that's probably £5-600 max to the right person. Lovely though it is I would not pay close to a bag for it. And I really like Midnight Aurora!

1991 GT Team Avalanche on FB Marketplace

That is wonderful. I'm also pleased that it has been 'recently serviced' and yet has not had the dreaded Shimano EZ fire shifters fitted... or a bloody awful modern saddle. I doubt £987 is the actual asking price TBH, it's probably just something the seller threw on to create the listing? Well...

    8Freight Cargo bike - restoration / project

All interesting stuff, but the easiest method to determine which side the fork should be is to just look at the direction of the mudguard mounts on the fork :) There is also a tiny bit of offset in the fork crown, so you will know if the fork is back to front! In a strange way it probably...

    8Freight Cargo bike - restoration / project

I've started digging out a few pictures from my own archives, including the 'Black 10' that I used for a few years. Note that mechanical disc brakes were fitted rather than drums. It was running 10 speed XT as well but you didn't really need the extra ratios TBH. You might recognise the yellow...

    8Freight Cargo bike - restoration / project

@LunarBike Still loving your work! The point you make about these being experimental is valid - pretty much all of the 8 Freights that MB made locally before outsourcing them were experimental in one way or another :) The chain rubbing on the basket crossmember is a common ailment and I have...

    Interesting old mtb, Kettler? £30

That's the one, Kettler Alu-Rad I think? I once raced my German exchange student on one of these when I was staying with him, I can still remember how upset he was when I beat him up a hill (he was riding a much lighter road bike) They are possibly the heaviest aluminium bike ever but...

    1995 Roberts DOGS BOLX Team

Just finally had a look at this thread. Pleased to see this on here :) FWIW I would agree that the stay should be okay, assuning that the stay itself hasnt been bent in any way? Brass filling and retouching probably is the best way to go. And the shifters in the catalogue image are almost...

    8Freight Cargo bike - restoration / project

Late to the party again! I'm loving all of this. @LunarBike you are doing everything exactly as Mike would do in regards to machining. He would be very impressed with your efforts for sure. If you were not in any doubt before you will definitely know that no 8 Freight is exactly the same - at...

Can someone help getting a bike from Austria to USA?

Sadly can't help... but it might be useful to know that geknackt is the Austrian (German) word for cracked, should you need to ask the question :)

Oops, didn't spot that! It is a bit of a curio, looks like it has hardly been used. I would like to know more about it's history for sure :)
