    Tub puncture repair.

In my late teens I used to fix training tubs but not race tyres though. I tried some early sealant but didn't find it too successful and shortly after was banned from using the stuff by my mother after a sealant filled tyre on a wheel I'd stored in my bedroom let go and sprayed latex around the...

    Bottom bracket maker ?

Started in Taiwan I think. Made all sorts of investment cast bits & pieces including cycle lugs etc. Worked closely with Tange who recently bought out the cycle parts of the buisness and transferred the tooling to their own factory.

    There certainly are. https://www.chickencyclekit.co.uk/shop/brake-pads/brake-pads-inserts-for-alloy-rims/

    Share your winter bike.

Don't know what it's like in club runs anymore as I'm a miserable sod these days so ride by myself but it used to be that you'd get slated if you turned up without guards between the end of October and the beginning of March. There could be many reasons for people not having winter bikes - I...

What freewheel tool do I need for this?

IceToolz 09D1 should fit. Maillard always wound up me, we had at least 5 different remover tools for their freewheels. And that doesn't include at least two for Helicomatics.

    Share your winter bike.

This, but now with a much more comfortable Flite saddle and a 13-26t cassette because 66 and far more overweight and unfit than I'd like to be. Xenon brakes & 9 speed gears, Veloce chainset, HTI pedals, modified Oxford mudguards ('cos the clearances are very tight), lots of anodised and...

What freewheel tool do I need for this?

You'll need a remover for a single-speed freewheel for that, most multi-speed two-prong remover tools will be too small. You'll usually find the tools marketed as 'BMX' removal tools.

    80s sr axles

It will probably do the job one way or another. Japanese axles tended to use slightly different cone diameters and thread dimensions to those used by Italian (as in Campagnolo, Gipiemmie, Miche etc) manufacturers. Swapping axles was often a case of trying combinations of axles and cones until...

    The Welsh Argos

My fixed testing bike had M71 pedals and a cut down & modified Weinmann 500 mounted on the back of the crown with a drilled Mafac lever facing forwards and pivoted from within the handlebars operating a reversed cable to clear the downtube . When I bought the bike it had been used for track...

Model is there on the top tube - it's a KL Lux.

    Seatpost slippage

Remove the grease and use a light (as in very light) coat of oil spread onto the post with a finger. The oil is there to reduce corrosion between the post and the frame, so there doesn't need to be much. I got it wrong last year (too much oil) and found my post dropped by about 1cm sometime...

Stripped bottom bracket threads -solutions please

Though I never fitted one, from what I remember the cups were unthreaded and the socket for the cartridge inside the cups was offset slightly from the centre of the cup diameter. The unit and cups had a set of marked datums which when aligned matched a 35mm diameter. To fit it the cartridge was...

What do you think of Shimano ditching rim brakes in 105 and higher?

Lots of us have brake-by-wire already. Lots of wires wound into Bowden cables.

State of the industry: a running thread

As usual, costs get passed to the end user whilst any benefits go elsewhere. Like green/carbo neutral energy - £40 of every annual electricity charge in the UK goes to pay for running the gas-fired power stations used when the wind farms are shut down because the wind speed exceeds the safe...

    BSA Tour of Britain

If there is a frame number it's likely on the left rear drop out. It's a generic 1970s Raleigh frame used on entry level bikes badged as Raleigh/Sun/BSA/ANOther brands depending on where marketed. Yes, the colour is original though I think it was only used for BSA branded bikes. Other colours...

    The Original Cargo Bike…

Does appear to be in good condition. Looks like the forks have been replaced though as I'd have expected them to be painted and to have the Raleigh tube fork crown.

    Saddle collectors

There's some sort of Swallow along with a tin of treatment (Proofide?) and something else (I think) in a presentation box in the depths of my father's wardrobe. I think he bought it at the York Rally a couple of decades back and it's never moved since.

What do you think of Shimano ditching rim brakes in 105 and higher?

Using composite materials for rims has always seemed like a mad idea to me, but yes, carbon rims and rim brakes isn't a good idea. As for alloy rims, how often do the brake tracks wear out? If it hadn't been for a spoke ferrule giving up a couple of years ago I'd still be riding a pair of Mavic...

Do the hoods look in the right position (classic bars)

IMHO, you had the hood position on the Hall pretty good in your October pictures, now it looks like you've moved them further up the bars and rotated the bars up a bit too, resulting in something that looks a bit to modern for non-brifters on a classic frame for my tastes. The Galaxy doesn't...
