Interesting Zunow frame, what's that about?

There was one on eBay a while back [I think]. I would have stumbled across it when looking for Japanese bits. I seem to remember the bike show story bit.

Restoring my 1960 Rudge Sports that I rode across the USA in 1961

Yeah, baked enamel will be the same thing. It was common to get British 'lightweight' frames enamelled back in the 50s. Yours is a factory-built frame I think made by the Raleigh company who had bought up various brands including Rudge, Triumph and BSA. It might even have a Raleigh serial...

Restoring my 1960 Rudge Sports that I rode across the USA in 1961

Hard to say for sure. Could have been cellulose or enamel paint, or it could have been stove enamelled. Bottom left of your post it should say Report Edit Delete in blue. Click on Edit, delete the bits of the post you want to get rid of and click Save.

Any thoughts on the year for Charlie Roberts #150?

I was going to say early 70s based on the fact that it has a band-on shifter mount. It was popular in the early 70s to have frames with no braze-ons. It’s way before my time but I literally had no idea there had been a bike shop in Sydenham, certainly not Roberts in an earlier guise. I’m...

    Long cranks.

The more I see this subject pop up, the more I think it’s down to what you’re comfortable with. Of course, if you’re taller or shorter, physiologically you’ll be more more suited to longer or shorter cranks because of the length of your limbs. But plenty of people prefer cranks outside of the...

    Name this vintage Japanese Bike

Were these called a super bike or super aero or something? Is the tubing Tange Aero? Definitely not something else in Columbus Air?

    R J Quinn - Fixed Gear Audax

Does it look like it originally had a derailleur hanger on the dropout? Has it been cut off or does it look like it never had one?

    8Freight Cargo bike - restoration / project

Excellent work! I could see you’ve got an old-style tool holder so I was going to ask you what lathe you had! I disagree about the accuracy bit. I learned on ancient Harrisons and Colchesters in the 90s and they were just fine. Everything is adjustable on those. And if there is a bit of slack...

Leach marathon 50s frame&fork ?(need help)

I take it you found all of these: https://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/classic_builders/leach-marathon/ https://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/readers_bikes/leach-marathon-1951/ https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/leach-marathon.385787/...

Leach marathon 50s frame&fork ?(need help)

I’ve not heard of them before and the lack of other replies is probably for the same reason. I’ve got a 1937/38 Parkes Lightweight, so similar sort of timeframe as yours, hovering around the wartime era. Don’t know if you’ve looked yet, but components from that era are actually pretty thin on...

Specialized 700c Tri Spoke Carbon Wheels - using a rear wheel up front?

HED disc wheels with screw-on freewheels could be used as fronts with a narrower axle and shorter end caps.

Leach marathon 50s frame&fork ?(need help)

I take you’ve trawled the Classic Lightweights site for any clues? I’m tempted to say it’s earlier. I think it’s late 40s, not 50s. It’s got earlier style lugs than you generally see in the 50s and the mudguard mounts and dropouts are similar to those used in the late 30s. I don’t think it’s...

While we're on the subject and because I've always been too scared to ask on LFGSS, what exactly is it that makes CK headsets so smooth and why do they last so much longer than other headsets? not intending to open a can of worms, just genuinely interested. I've never had one in my hand to see...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Well I did 35 really windy miles this morning on my 40-year old steel-framed fixed gear daily. It has modern track hubs with cartridge bearings, and a modern square taper bottom bracket again with cartridge bearings. I’d just like to say a massive shout out to cartridge bearings because I...
