    Purple Makino NJS

Slightly embarrassingly I still haven’t got around to building it up. Main holdup has been the wheels because I haven’t decided whether I’m going to flatten the axles on my current wheels, which will render them useless in a 10mm dropout, or to splash out on a set of NJS wheels (££££££). Plus I...

    French thread pedal adaptor?

There’s no adapter to go from M14 to 9/16” or vice versa. The two threads are so close together that they pretty much already thread into each other. An M14 pedal loosely goes into a 9/16 and if you get lucky it doesn’t strip when you tighten it. Likewise, a 9/16 pedal will go into a worn or...

Can anyone tell me what year my bsa bicycle was made

As Jim mentioned, look for a two digit number on the hub. It’s been a while since I looked at one but it’ll say something like Sturmey Archer AW in the chromework, followed by a number like 75 or 7512. 75 will be the year (1975) and the 12 will be the month (December). It looks like it has its...

    Code of the road.

I’ve recently moved and my commute takes me down a few miles of what seems to be known locally as the ‘old ten’. Far more cyclists on this route than my old commute and a high percentage appear to be out training or on group rides. So that’s a lot more waves and acknowledgments to do and receive...

    Which pump?

I was about to list a Lezyne Micro Drive pump in the classifieds if anyone is interested? It’s the original model which has a gauge and can easily do over 100psi. Was thinking £35 delivered.

    1950 - Holdsworth Cyclone-De-Luxe

Looks great. Consider the size. By today’s sizing it’s far too big. By yesterday’s sizing it looks about right. Fist-full of seatpost was the guide. If it’s not too long and it’s comfortable, it’s right 👍

    Chamfered bb, possibly, questions

This was probably put in because the original bb threads were knackered. You usually chamfer the inside faces to make it locate properly in the bb shell.

    Retro Triathlon Bikes ??????????????????????????????????????

I finally managed to upload my pictures. Only took 4 years! Bottom of page 1, posts 9 and 10: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/retro-triathlon-bikes.416269/#post-3055936 https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/retro-triathlon-bikes.416269/#post-3055937 But yeah, in context, they’re not really...

    Can anyone identify this frame?

This is a very nice frame. It has a full set of ornate “fancy cut” lugs which all look like they’ve been thinned down or feathered. Semi wrap over stays and even fancy cut around the top of the seat cluster which you don’t see very often. This would have been an unbelievably expensive frame when...

What's your Holy Grail among British frame builders?

There was just a HUGE frame building industry in London and all round the UK. Generally, yes, they were built by the names on the frame. After WW2 there was big demand for bikes because most people couldn’t afford cars yet. People used them for their transport and bike racing was popular. Men...

    It was different back then!

Love it! Crazy to think we’re going to look back on this in 40 years and see me on my cargo bike with my two little-uns in the front and think it looks so old fashioned! As a bike with no electric assist, it’s already way out of date in family bike terms.

What is your Holy Grail among Japanese frame builders or marques?

Re: Kalavinka @BongoInTheCongo This is waaaay too small for me but look at the fit and finish of this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385687538809 In other news. This thread got me. Spec: 2015 frame TT 54 ST 52 Kasei NiCR-MO 8630 double-butted. Seller said Max fork, but I think it's Kasei...

Looking for info. Vintage Raleigh Sports 10 Speed

I don’t know if Raleighs came with wrap-over stays in the UK. Someone more knowledgeable would have to confirm. I reckon in the UK that would have been branded as a Carlton and they are well respected. Age-wise, my gut feeling is that it’s probably mid or late 60s and I’m basing that on the...

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

I think it’s worth having another look at what’s going on. Check the cable hasn’t slipped out the derailleur, it’s in its guide under the bottom bracket and that it’s actually pulling on the derailleur. If the derailleur moves across to the bigger ring when you pull the lever towards you, but...

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

Some are and some aren’t. My 6-speed Exage levers from that era are indexed on the left-hand lever. I think you can turn the centre round 180° and switch between indexed and non-indexed but I’ve never done it. The left-hand lever on my 10-speed Dura Ace ones isn’t indexed at all afaik.
