    All things Canadian.....

I’ve always liked Le Croco road bikes, had a really cool vintage crit bike made by them that handled nicely! I remember when I first saw this bike pop up fully built, I was really excited to see a Le Croco MTB for the first time… luckily it was too small and the geometry on it also looked...

    1986 Rocky Mountain Tantalus

That was basically my initial feeling once they were on there… They’re a unique piece and I thought they might find a home on this bike being of relatively close age and both local product… I don’t think they’ll stick around though.

Popped the Syncros fenders on and went for a little spin. Bike feels great, not entire sold one way or the other on the fenders at the moment. Snapped a couple photos, I apologize as I’m pretty crummy in regards to photography.

Just snagged a nice set of Syncros’ first product, their fenders (mudguards around here I guess)… figure after a good clean and polish of the aluminum, this might be the right bike for them… Once I throw them on I’ll snap a few better photos.

Thanks Roy! When I originally got it there was a chainstay u-brake… a modification that had been made as it was missing the original paint where the canti posts on the seat stays were removed and the new u-brake mounts installed on the chainstay. The cable housing stops on the top tube for the...

    1986 Rocky Mountain Tantalus

Just a small tease, to myself… got the frame and fork back today but due to obligations could only pop the seatpost in to clamp in the stand, and install the headset. Incredibly pleased, only surprise being the brazed Rocky stem and Syncros fenders I got to bring home with it! So far we have...

    1986 Rocky Mountain Tantalus

Thanks you guys! I can’t wait to see it in person! At that point I don’t imagine anytime will be wasted getting it built.

    1986 Rocky Mountain Tantalus

A little sneak peak of this frame in its finished state with decals and clear coat applied… and upside down for the photo… I’ll get it back next week and start building, a classic Specialized chrome headset to lead things off, keeping it classic and to spec.

As every bike I seem to find that appeals to me ends up being blue in colour… I generally lean to other colours if the choice were mine… Since I’m committed to a repaint here the choice for colour was the other listed colour in the 1986 spec. I initially being the “medium rich blue metallic” I...

    1986 Rocky Mountain Tantalus

I’m not entirely certain what the process involved was… the frame had sat bare for a bit as it went back for a second round of repairs… so it needed a good clean up, I think after some sanding etc it was a treatment applied to the outer of the frame where the paint is headed to make certain no...

Not a lot new to report, here’s a little teaser snap I got of the frame being prepped and receiving a rust treatment.

Threw chainrings onto the polished Specialized Flag cranks, opted for these to offset the polish/alloy ring contrast the originals would have presented… and I think this light bronze ano will compliment the final build. To be fitted with a nice clean pair of XC2’s.

    1986 Rocky Mountain Tantalus

The wheelset varies a little bit off the catalogue spec, but I laced up a pair I think are pretty sharp and should suit the build. The hubs I believe are old black Bullseye hubs, I had to get a bit crafty swapping and altering the rear axle as they came from a road bike and I needed 130mm...

BoTM BotM November 2021 - Non 26" wheels special (26"/24" combo permitted)

I don’t know how a proper nomination should look but surely Simon’s Topanga! should be included here!

    1986 Rocky Mountain Tantalus

With the frame & fork & decals all out at Toxic Lab being painted by a friend currently studying under the excellent watch of Harald I’m beginning to assemble bits for the build awaiting the return… Yesterday I put the bars together, uncut very clean silver alloy Nitto bullmoose bars, a couple...
