    Good time correct saddle (1992-1995)

Although a Flite might be period correct, not sure if it would fit well in a hybrid. Maybe a Turbo? I like Vettas or Avocet, but they are hard to find...

Shimano crankset vs BB spindle length database

Since you seem well informed in both Shimano specs and bottom brackets, I have a question that I have not found an answer for, not even in the Shimano website. Their newest and now only square taper bottom bracket offering, the BB-UN300, comes for "standard, e-type and chain case" options. All...

Does anyone use a Rohloff 500/14 speed hub on their 26" commuter?

As a German product, I see quite a few commuters on my way to Frankfurt. However, most are people that use their touring bike for commuting purposes, and now that gravel bikes are "cooler" than tourers, I see them a bit less. For travel, we saw some in South America when we traveled there...

Shimano crankset vs BB spindle length database

Wow, thanks for the Shimano link!! I did not know that they also had technical documents for the older stuff. I usually just google the reference and hope for the best... That being said, I checked for the FC-AT10 (a 1993 Altus A10 crankset I have) but they only have the exploded views, no...

Shimano crankset vs BB spindle length database

Searching in google for the correct spindle length for a crank that came on a used bike I just bought, I came to a random link from a Hungarian online bike shop, that seems to list quite a few Shimano cranksets and their respective spindle. Not sure of its accuracy so first check if it matches...

1994 Gamaparts GPX Sport folding bike (re-badged Dahon Mountain Classic)

It doesn't feel heavier than a similar not foldable bike, so I'd say around 13-14kg. It is designed for the occasional fold, not the regular commute...

1994 Gamaparts GPX Sport folding bike (re-badged Dahon Mountain Classic)

Finally, the pedals were supposed to be removed using some big plastic rings with the shape of the axle pedal that you were supposed to be able to screw/unscrew by hand. Given the amount of rust and neglect, I doubt I'll be able to remove them without breaking the plastic. By the way, any tips...

1994 Gamaparts GPX Sport folding bike (re-badged Dahon Mountain Classic)

Nothing exciting and actually quite low end, but given its rarity, I thought it would be worth documenting. I have only seen 2 other bikes like this in all of the internet, both classifieds on a Swiss website. I bought it recently locally (Würzburg, Germany) as I was looking for a full size...

    crazy

I don't get annoyed when I see what I think are crazy prices. The market will put the seller (or me if I'm wrong) in its place. And, within reason, I sometimes list something at too high prices so that even if I don't want to sell, for such crazy money I might be convinced... I have a couple...

Show us your 700C ATB / MTB / Hybrid

Lastly, I am selling this one locally right now. I believe a 1997 although I can´t find any online confirmation, Specialized Crossroads Elite. Already the aluminium version, but before they did the ugly curved top tube.

And since I am digging in my archive of previous bikes, another one. 1996 Trek 750, got it in very poor condition and fixed it up. I had to sell when we did our South America tour in 2022 and had no place to store it. Also the "Trekking" version.

And another nice one. This was my favourite colour in a bike ever, I had to sell because it was too small for me or my wife. Beautiful metallic purple 1995 Trek 750, the European "Trekking" version with mudguards and lights. I´d love to find one in a 21"

I already sold it, but I had for a while this 1992 Specialized Crossroads Trail LX in incredible condition

Knackered vintage fork. Can be fixed cheaply?

Thanks for the answers. Yes, as long as the fork is safe to ride, I will leave it as it is. The asking price is 40 so I'd be happy if I manage to be close to getting my money back. I looked at used forks and the cheapest were 20€, so including all the hassle of installation totally not worth it ...

Knackered vintage fork. Can be fixed cheaply?

Found this bike in the local classifieds. Mostly XT stuff. I plan to buy it for the parts, swap with cheaper stuff, and sell again. Issue is the forks, completely bottomed out. Is there a cheap way to fix them? If not, are they safe to ride, even if they won't work? I will be reselling cheaply...

What are your retro bike plans for 2024.

I see loads of decluttering plans... You are going to flood the market with stock, CRC will never recover :) My plans: -get a good deal on a tiny 26" for my oldest son. He just upgraded to a 24", so that is my excuse to waste ridiculous time checking the classifieds for a super deal on the...

Biscuits or bananas / up or down / shimano or sram

I have Shimano mostly because my stuff is mid -low range and in this field they are unbeatable. It's easy to make good and expensive stuff. But cheap and reliable, nobody compares to Shimano. And as mentioned I don't like the toxic fluid on SRAM brakes.

    Unbiased upgrade opinion

Recommended upgrade for any parents in this forum. Plus it is definitely retro. Both my kids have one on their bikes as they keep "parking" their bikes by throwing them to the floor on the derailleur side (even though both have a kickstand). Whenever they move to the next size, this protector...

    Stem shims and school maths

Thanks to both! You are right, pi was not needed, I mixed up diameter with overall circumference. However, my theory is still right, since I would need 2x1.6mm shims, which is the same as one 3.2mm shim of those used for a 31.8 stem. Although I agree that a two side shim application would be...
