Rapid Rise vs. Front Freewheel (or both?)

Shimano FREESHIFT Shift without pedaling.......... https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/technologies/component/details/steps/free-shift.html What next ? Is Rapid Rise coming back too? Here's some text from them on their XTR shifters MULTI RELEASE "Previous shifting systems shifted faster in one...

Back to Rene Herse tires. It seems that people who have tried RH tires seem to agree that something significant is going on there. I suspect that this is something that they discovered during testing. It was not a product of the Theory, Calculation, Production engineering process. I'm sure that...

They wander around at night. Warning up on the pavement is not uncommon. A woman got eaten by an alligator a couple miles from where I live (suburbs not country at all) walking her dogs by a canal. That was in broad daylight. Dogs as in 2x American Pitbulls. I actually did submerge the motor on...

I'm not racing anybody so I don't need to get too technical. Just knowing which direction things are moving is enough for my purposes. But I did create some increase in coasting resistance by going to a front freewheel setup. Not because there was much of an advantage, but because it was a huge...

So that would be a Touring bike? It's not what I do. The bikes may be similar in many ways, but being in or around cities I don't need to pack any baggage. I do see an occasional loaded touring bikes around here. The Ebike is probably as heavy. But the XC bike is more like a gravel bike than a...

I ordered the Herse Rat Trap Pass tires today 26x2.3" . I'll post back when they're on the bike. Thank you for the speed reference. Since wind resistance squares with speed I used 16mph, and 17.5 mph and got 17.5/16=1.094x1.094= 1.195 Almost a 20% gain in net output. TBH I ride the Ebike...

Rapid Rise vs. Front Freewheel (or both?)

Here's a quote from a Shimano engineer on the origins of Rapid Rise. "We originally designed the reverse spring for the Nexave group to make shifting less complicated," Boehmke said. "But it worked so well we applied it to the '97 XTR group. Our racers (like Kirk Molday, Alison Dunlap and Dave...

In MTB circles 26" is generally considered obsolete and retro. I started a thread at MTBR on this and 5k views in 3 days, and 10 pages long. Lots of 1990s MTB coming out of storage. It seems that one thread there has more interest in old bikes than this whole forum You should take up snoring.

Could you be more specific please. Did you go wider than you had before, and went faster too? I think that's the big question here. Also which casing did you use? The standard, or the reinforced version? I'm going straight to the lightest one to see what this is all about.

I prefer results to theory, physics or otherwise. RH finds comfort and speed to be related in the real world. Winning races on cruiser sized bicycle tires certainly is a revolution. Just a look at their tire pressure calculator. I t produces 2 separate results, not a range of pressures. That's...

RH sells other sizes of tires also. So I don't see why they would favor 26" if it didn't offer some advantage. Since they are serious racers they actually do testing to see what rpovides an advantage and what doesn't. They will be glad to take your money too. I've seen this sort of skepticism...

Rene HERSE Cycles is a builder of custom Touring CX Gravel and Tandem bikes. They're located in Colorado US. They're coming from a background of traditional road racing bikes. Center pull brakes, rigid bikes, etc. I'm not plugging their products. ( TBH most of their stuff doesn't interest me)...

Rapid Rise vs. Front Freewheel (or both?)

I'm still thinking about Rapid Rise for both my Bikes. I just ordered some old Saint M800/M801 SS caged derailleurs. One RR one standard. These are the ones that are bolted on with a 10mm Thru Axle. No hangers to bend or break. The XC bike will get an RR Shimano LX GS cage deraillleur. I'll try...

Rapid Rise vs. Front Freewheel (or both?)

The problem with the Zee is that I got the DH version thinking that it was the SS size, and the FR version was the GS cage. But they're both SS sized. The solution turns out to be that the SLX which is on the bike now has the same part# hanger extension as the FR Zee. This solves the problem...
