On balance, I still am not a fan of e-bikes (previously known as ‘I just don’t get E bikes’)

I hadn't realised there was a mid-drive bolt-on motor available! Hmmm food for thought.

On balance, I still am not a fan of e-bikes (previously known as ‘I just don’t get E bikes’)

I have to wonder if you and chopper the ex copper are hoping (banking on) the manufacturers keeping spares and software support etc for decades? I fear that after a few years support and spares will dry up, standards will have evolved and only the technically gifted and/or ingenious will be able...

The most expensive bike on the whole of ebay!

Waiting for someone with billionaire money to want one to accompany their Ferrari collection perhaps? If so I don't think ebay is the best place to market it! Maybe the seller should take a holiday to an Arab State and cycle up and down outside a supercar dealership lol

How old is my Hercules Balmoral?

I found the serial number on the back of the seat tube. It has been indicated elsewhere that the start of it (NH5.....) Indicates it was made in Nottingham in mid/late 1975.

How old is my Hercules Balmoral?

Thanks for the answers chaps. It mirrors my feeling that it is older than the Hub and shifter suggest. My only concern with it is play in the rear hub. I am hoping it is just a quick adjust and tighten of the bearing cones? But that can wait until next year lol

How old is my Hercules Balmoral?

I have picked up a free Hercules Balmoral and am wondering how old it is? The 3-speed hub is dated June 1990 but as it has a black cable outer and the brake outers are white I am wondering if it is a later replacement? So when did Raleigh stop producing Hercules bikes? Did they go as far as 1990?

Folders! Foldable bicycles, minivelos and demontables

Thanks for the offer, I am happy to take your word for it as I find trying out other people's nice stuff is usually followed by an urge to spend money I shouldn't 😁 In reality the decathlon bike would work well for me if I could find a longer seat post that fits. I won't look now though as it...

Folders! Foldable bicycles, minivelos and demontables

I tried a Decathlon six speed folder recently. Fine for 1.5 miles to the station but at 6 foot and with seatpost at it's minimum insertion/max extension it was still too small for me to do anything longer on it. It is now been given to my mates vertically challenged wife to use 😁 I would be...

    More info on this bike

Midlife has posted a link to another thread about a bike by the same maker in case it offers you any useful information. I think you might get a better response if you actually posted a bit about the bike and yourself (e.g. how long you have had it, what you know already and what you want to...

    A Classic Mistake?

I picked up a Pioneer with 501 tubing recently as I think these Raleighs are very underated and undervalued bikes that can cover a lot of riding uses. Most importantly l don't think they are being attractive to the scum that carry bolt cutters and cordless angle grinders!! When PO strikes allow...
