    1961 Raleigh superbe (Helio)

I can't remember whether the red lens screws in, or just needs a twist. Try dipping in hot water first. Keith

Re: 1961 Raleigh superbe The lamp reflector was silver plated. The brake levers do not look anything like Raleigh. It is easy to solder the brake cables, but more difficult on an old cable. The chainwheel cover is the wrong way up. The rims are stainless steel, you will notice that the spokes...

Re: 1961 Raleigh superbe Original tyres were always Dunlop, probably with silver sidewall, was that the silver sprite? Memory going a bit. Try a bit of oil in the SA hub, could be cones a bit tight, but get some oil in the ball race above the cog. Keith

Re: 1961 Raleigh superbe Raleigh Superb were all dark green, Rudge equivalent Maroon and Humber dark blue. They all had a few detail differences. The Humber had a "duplex" double fork blade and Rudge a different frok crown. All 3 Makes had their own sales reps, who all sold Triumph. This was in...

Re: 1961 Raleigh superbe Always a problem with the chaincase. The RH crank may be bent, often they bent very easily. You may be able to loosen the cotter pin and move the crank on the axle. Generally we had to push and pull the chaincase, but often it would revert back. Keith

Re: 1961 Raleigh superbe The expander bolt needs to be undone about 3 turns then gently tapped down to release the wedge. Keith

Need help with Raleigh Europa T1

The RH bracket cup is left hand thread, and very tight. This bike would be a low end mass produced model. 26 TPI was used by Raleigh for nearly 100 years for head and bracket threads when the standard for British bikes was 24 TPI. Keith

    Falcon San Remo Equipe?

Mando, Plenty of Nervex info if you search. The length of the bottom head lug would allow a mass producer to cut the tube straight instead mitering. Even the cheap way of 2 straight cuts would only just get the tube inside the Nervex Pro lug. Keith

Help please re an R. O. Harrison bike

My best guess is early 50s, there may be components that confirm this. Looks like Simplex T de F and Stronglite/Simplex chainset. Keith

1 inch quill stem for 31.8 bars

Re: Back in the 60s when bikes were all dead simple we used to open the handlebar clamp perhaps 2mm with a wooden wedge, could be plastic now. The bend of a handlebar is slightly oval in cross section, and we now had a slightly oval hole in the stem. By lining these up the handlebar could be...

    Holdsworth? Pinarello? Mystery bike

Re: from the frame number possibly from Japan? Keith

    BSA Sunbeam frame number

very unlikely to identify by frame number. It could have been made by one of Raleigh overseas factories. Some made frames, others just assembled what they were sent. The brakes are pure Raleigh. Keith

    BSA Sunbeam frame number

It looks like a Raleigh, so after the demise of BSA, probably 1956 to 58. Note 26 TPI head and bottom bracket threads. Keith

    Sheffield Langsett - appreciation thread

The Williams chainset might have a date code on it, looks possibly original. I can't see a headclip, so assume its expander bolt, with inserted cups headset. Russ fork pattern started in 1937ish and was mostly gone by 1939. Keith

Looks 1938/9 to me. (from here) Keith

LH special into a road bike ?

The frame looks like mid to late 50s. A road racer then would often have had one bike, ride to work, change wheels for a race, ride it through the snow and ice. So needed full mudguards. Possibly 73 x 71 which was commonly available lug set, so the saddle it not that far forward. To give you...

    BSA Regal Bike Identification

BSA stopped production in 1958. After that Raleigh badged some bikes BSA. This has some aspects of a Raleigh frame from 60 /70's with much later components. If so it would have had 26 TPI head and bracket threads. Keith

    Frame ID: please help

It looks late 1950s. All standard frame components, so any one of 100 could have built it, unless the number is recognised. Probably built 73 / 73 angles, the head looks a bit steeper? Keith
