Got me there, can't remember, but you could fit a flatted washer and locknut, 3/8 x 26 tpi not SA size. While the BSA gear is a lot smoother, if high gear slips it needs a driver and planet cage, a AW just needs 4 planet pins and a sliding clutch, simple cross shaped piece. Keith

No grease ever used in them. There is probably a light motor oil suitable, but don't use much, it'll run down the spokes. You could grease the balls just behind the cog, I think they are 3/16 inch. If the ball race under the other end of the driver is falling apart you might have to stick them...

Is that a BSA half link I can see? Connecting link probably has the usual spring clip. Pre war BSA had their own with a sort of swivel lock on the connecting link. If you do get into the rear hub the right hand cone has a steel flatted cover which is tight to slide off to get to the cone, which...

You can see why I suggested hanging it from the front, but if your cleanup means removing the chain it is possible to feed it back in from the chainwheel cover, but again the bike needs to hang down from the front. Keith

Anyone know what this beauty is?

Not Osgear ends. the prong is just to help wheel replacement. Osgear ends have a cut out to take the hub spindle in a fixed forward position. This is better for getting the changing arm close to the cogs. As possibly the last person alive to have used a Paris Roubaix gear in a real road race...

Anyone know what this beauty is?

looks like a road racers bike from late 40s to early 50s.. The Williams chainset might have a date , both on cranks and chainring. The Simplex T d F was common til the mid 50s. It is not the early version, from memory about 1950 on but may not be original. Pedals probably not original. Bluemels...

Re: I was retailing these in the early 50s, but can't remember the model. There must be a BSA / Sunbeam catalogue somewhere from 1954. Keith

    Sunbeam restoration

BSA from early to mid 50s. The BSA brake adjuster below the handlebars was about 1954, and locks against an internal coil spring. There were a few late ones that had a rear wheel release that left the cog in place. When removing rear wheel we used to hang the bike with the front upwards, remove...
