Re: Vitus Road bike 54cm £150 I believe it's a 979 (open to correction here), I'd guestimate it was early 1980s, bonded aluminum luged, hub spacing is old so narrow, but I've not measured it.

A tidy little 54cm Vitus bike, gears work properly but the brakes need new cables connecting up as I was using flat bars but I've put the old drops back on for sale. Clearly had things changed over time as it's a bit of random assortment of parts. But cheap and usable. £130 posted or £110...

98 sounds about right, could even be slightly newer. It won't be a Tange frame or anything like that as it's a fairly low end town shopping machine. Just Ride and enjoy it would be excellent for doing what it was designed for popping into town or the pub.

How much are the forks

I'm seriously looking into these. I have a collie that pulls hard and he needs some sort of extra stimulation.

It looks a fair bit newer than 1988 to me, I'd guess at more the mid 90s. Regarding it's quality, it looks to be fitted with a fairly low end chunky crankset and rear mech so I'd say it wasn't anything particularly special. No idea what it is though sorry.

As FluffyChicken said the frame will take it fine, but the current forks and stem would no longer be any use and would have to be replaced.
