What was the other Zolatone bike brand?

This has been nagging at me for a while, there was another brand that used a matt Zolatone/neon bar/stem/fork paint scheme in the early 1990s. I remember doing side by side comparison with my 1990 bear valley and the frames were near identical with perhaps some cable routing differences. The...

mechagouki's 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade new pix 5/6/2013!

Re: mechagouki's 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade Think I've got most of what I need now: Grips as mentioned earlier, very cheap and exactly as I remember them BITD: These brake pads appear identical to stock, but are packaged as Altus now, hopefully a little softer than the originals: A minor...

Story of the Season Part II POLL

It's a very exclusive club, the SotS winners. I liked them all actually, there's some subtle humour in Wookiee's: Congrat's to LGF, very clever.

    My tired & tatty 1993 Brodie Catalyst… make-over???

I didn't know you were working on this! I'd close to forgotten about that bike. Glad to see it again and being given your usual level of care and attention!

Re: 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade; found another after 20 years. Hey Frank! Been meaning to email you (you know what I'm like), fancy doing a retro equipped Epic 8 this summer? Julian is up for it. Might take you up on the STi units, sure I can find something to trade.

mechagouki's 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade new pix 5/6/2013!

Re: 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade; found another after 20 years. Small update; left DX push/push which I thought was blown seems to be coming back after liberal applications of Jig-A-Loo: I found a source for an unbranded hex foam grip near identical to the OEM grips - $6 a pair, so I bought 3...

Upload and request of 1989 and 1990 Marin catalogue

1989s were the first Marin bikes I saw, I guess that was the first time a store in my town (Eastbourne) stocked them. I distinctly remember the black and gold BVs and the glossy grey/neon orange Pines. First one I owned was a 1990 BV, a friend's sister was going out with the guy who owned ATB...

mechagouki's 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade new pix 5/6/2013!

Re: 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade; found another after 20 years. Well I hear you from an originality POV, but both sets of push/push I had BITD, both DX and XT, would rank in my top 10 most hated bike parts ever. Honestly, the current Acera rapidfires shown above shift better than XTR did 20 years...

    A Great British company!

I just wanted to say a public thank-you to the guys at DMR, I was reassembling my Trailstar recently and found I had lost the steerer clamp thingy from my Headstock stem. I emailed DMR (not hoping for much, the stem is no longer made/sold) and got a fast response from a guy names Olly. A couple...

mechagouki's 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade new pix 5/6/2013!

I could start this thread by waxing lyrical about halcyon days on blue-collar bikes, but it's all been done to death already. Suffice to say I had a 19" 1991 Marin Eldridge Grade (MEG) way back in 1992, I loved riding it, but I sold it on to buy a Stumpjumper, and have regretted it since. My...

    Dented steel - how bad?

Even if it was Tange Ultimate you'd have little cause to worry; lugged 531 - fill it, paint it, forget about it.

    How........

As mentioned above, you need two chain whips, your small cog is counter tightened against the rest of the cassette. This was Shimano's original cassette system, later replaced by the internally threaded freehub and lockring used to this day. Some good info here: http://sheldonbrown.com/k7.html

Help in choosing a Stem-made in UK/USA etc (not Taiwan/China

Re: Help in choosing a Stem-made in UK/USA etc (not Taiwan/C I have this 130mm, 10 degree (up or down) polished Control Tech stem. It's USA made, beautiful fishscale welded aluminum, and it has a removable faceplate, so riser bars are easy to fit. 25 quid plus shipping if you want it.

Is this a Specialized Stumpjumper, or not?

It's not a Stumpjumper. Stumpjumpers were still steel in 1992. This bike marked a major new direction from Specialized. In later years there were indeed M2 Stumpjumpers, but the bike in your picture was the team issue machine, near identical to what was being raced by Ned Overend and others at...

Is this a Specialized Stumpjumper, or not?

1992 Specialized M2 Team with Future Shock fork. Top of the range that year, and something of an iconic bike. First time the bg S made a racing hardtail out of alloy (M2 is a metal matrix, made of aluminum with other minerals added to increase strength and reduce weight).
