Any help in identifying vintage road bike frame?

The number looks like '6278' to me (I think it may be upside down in your photo)

n+1, this time a steel one.

measure from the string to the seat tube on both sides. The measurements should be identical if your frame is in alignment. Use a thinner string than I did though- that's just so it shows up in the photo.

    Mysterious fork crown

Yeah you're right about the wrapover. OP could do worse though than contacting Rourke and asking if it's one of theirs, and if they reply in the negative, asking them who they think might've built it? That 'fastback/wraparound' can't be that common- probably the OP's best bet for identifying the...

    Mysterious fork crown

If it has 1010 dropouts, domed stay ends, Prugnat points and takes a 27mm pin it's almost certain to be 531db. That seat cluster is screaming: "Brian Rourke"... to me, anyway..

    Mysterious fork crown

Crown looks like a Milremo Giro that's had a bit of file work done on it. Common crown from mid '60s-mid '70s.

Bernard Carre frame - What specification am I working to?

You should probably seek confirmation from a Frenchman about this- but if you can literally "pop it back in", it probably means that the wood has shrunk and the plug is not going to perform it's intended function. My understanding is that these plugs should be made of hardwood- as hard as you...

Paint your wagon! Or rather a shiny frame the rattle can way

Ah what the hell... since it's been bumped, here's a picture of my last brush job- last in both senses of the word.. i.e. a) temporally most recent and b) I'll probably never have the time, inclination or peace of mind necessary to do it again... just to illustrate that this can be a...

Frame Identification.....Mercian, Claud Butler, Jack Hearne....?

Iirc Jack Hearne numbers are first two digits = year , so probably not a Hearne, nor a Mercian, nor a Holdsworth. Holdsworth numbers I've seen have been drive-side. That 4-digit number looks more Bob Jackson, but Jackson numbers I've seen have been central under the bracket. That fork crown-...

    My Pat Hanlon

I've never owned a tubular or ridden one, but yes, as far as I'm aware 'sprint' rims would have been 700c, confused by the fact that a 'tub' had a nominal outer diameter of about 27", so might've been colloquially referred to as a "27inch tubular" in pre-metric Britain. Brakes-not much info...

    My Pat Hanlon

Yes that's the point. As far as I'm aware, prior to Campag Record brakes in the late sixties, most brakesets had a longer reach brake at the rear, and most road going frames would have been built to accommodate it. A road/path frame would usually have been expected to be able to accommodate...

    My Pat Hanlon

It does- as far as I can see, anyway. That's a very close clearance rear brake bridge for an early sixties road frame, or even a road/path frame- it might've been repositioned at some time ? or it could've started out as a track frame. I don't know if those wheels are 700c or 27" ? Those...

Which one of you lot is this then?

I guess the guy who shares what he learnt about building bike frames from twenty years at Claud Butler gets called a "lug nazi" or something? You can take a horse to water...

Which one of you lot is this then?

Err... that'd have to be: '90s' ...in my book, anyway. '90's music is the music of 1990, a subset of the '90s' music- presumably about 10% of it before factoring in a decade of technological/economic/population growth, with its presumed concomitant growth in the number of music productions...

Which one of you lot is this then?

Haha..Hoist by my own petard. Question is, can I logically use "edit" to put 'em in? To "edit" is to take stuff out, right?

Which one of you lot is this then?

90's not a decade, it's a number. The number 90. 90's a number. 90s is not a decade either, (unless you are talking specifically about the tenth decade of the first century AD.) It's the ten numbers between 90 and 99 inclusive. '90s is a decade, or at least it could be. '90's the first year of...

Ti Raleigh Seat Tube Decals.. The Definitive Guide To The Correct Team Livery

From my point of view: whether you go back to Phil Bayton/Dave Lloyd pre-'75, or Hennie Kuiper/Jan Raas a few years later, or Joop a few years after that.. I think that we've produced something stylistically closer to what they had on their machines than that which has been generally available...

Raleigh Dynaflite SBDU 753.... 'Manager Special'

If you rebuild the wheels, be wary of over-tensioning those. I rebuilt a pair, and a while later the rear one spontaneously pretzelised itself. Luckily the bike was standing on the patio at the time rather than rolling along the highway with me on board. That was a well-used pair admittedly, but...
