    Reimagining a 1988 Merlin Mountain

Be rude not to have something to match the front brake tho, right? I mean, given the chance.

    Reimagining a 1988 Merlin Mountain

Now the main issue with the above is this: you can't run it with the pivot sleeves Paul provides, because the bosses are much too wide for those, being designed for a cantilever stud n' all. But what if you had some custom ones fabricated, in a thinner material? That could be a solution...

    Reimagining a 1988 Merlin Mountain

Right then, time to bite the bullet with all these updates... Basically, I'll run through the myriad of issues I encountered once the bike was in my possession, and how I've tried to solve at least some of them! First, the rear brake... Now, it worked well-enough, and obviously a WTB...

Wanted Bog standard 1" Chris King NoThreadset in Black and some Paul Chim Chims!

Anyone got an affordable 1" CK NoThreadset in black for me (all logo variations considered)? Also, I've got a hankering to try some Paul Chim Chim's for some reason... Even tho I've been anti bar ends my entire life! Must be getting old. I think it's the stash compartment that really does it...

    Ibis

The Koski fork really makes this one. Which you don't see on these often. I've recently purchased a frames from the same seller, and can more than vouch for him. Great guy to deal with, and fair prices for what he manages to find out there for absolute bargains!

    Early Rock Lobster

I hate this bike. But only because it was supposed to be mine! I'd reached an agreement with the original seller just before Christmas, for A LOT less money. Then this guy came in, made a higher offer, switched out some things during his "restoration" (and, in my opinion, in the process lost...

    Retrobike Touring.

Everything about this is just right! Down to the bag choice and placement. Still looks fast, even loaded down.

    Shimano headset logo orientation......

12 and 6. But I'm only saying that because that's the way I installed mine without thinking, and I want it to be right!

    Reimagining a 1988 Merlin Mountain

That bike looks like if my Merlin and Bontrager CX had a baby! Toe overlap definitely sucks. So much of it when I ride the latter! It’s quite unnerving on off-road corners…

Fat Chance Yo Eddy - 1990 MBUK Summer Special super bike tribute

Damnit, now I want to find a set of Bullseyes for my own impending Fat project! Just what I needed, another bottomless money pit of eBay suffering...

    '94 Rock Lobster

You know what? I like that beat-up tan Flite on it. Keep it! And you know what else? The fork, too! Paint matching will be really nice because it will help sort-of fade that crazy-ass fork into the frame. I can picture it now. I will say tho, with all that in mind, this beauty deserves XT at...

    Reimagining a 1988 Merlin Mountain

And another two, from today: This was actually my first time riding it without the basket. It's been dry-docked for a few months now, and although it's not close to it's final form, it's closer! I'll get to the changes, issues, solutions and plans shortly. But big thanks to @br0qn for the...

    1992 Specialized S-Works Cross

Stoked to see this ended up in good hands, and can't wait to see what you do with it! Sensitive period correct build, or let your hair down and throw whatever you like at it? Can't go wrong either way with something like this, I feel. Cross bikes that will take a big tire. ATB. Whatever you...

    Reimagining a 1988 Merlin Mountain

A little shakedown ride yesterday after the first major change: I wonder if anyone can spot it…

    Reimagining a 1988 Merlin Mountain

Ah, thanks! This thread is due some heavy updates. As quite a lot has happened with this bike since my friend finished it, but I’m waiting on a few solutions to problems to materialize, then there’s a bit of rebuilding to do, then I’ll shoot some proper photos. For now tho, here it is, in its...

Fat Chance Yo Eddy - 1990 MBUK Summer Special super bike tribute

What was catalog spec stem back then? Not that I give a rats about catalog, just curious to know what a typical Fat of that era would have come with in the stem department. I do love the references you make to the 90s you in your choices! Especially as you say you're not riding it, so really...
