Simplex /Mavic downtube shifters - dark grey anodising

Doesn’t look like an aftermarket job, but I can’t be sure. I think they made them for someone else (like they did for Mavic), as Simplex is not written on them, and the colour doesn’t match anything known.

Simplex /Mavic downtube shifters - dark grey anodising

Awful photo - will try and take a side-by-side with the silver ones later

Want a good laugh? Read Livestrong's 'History of Dura Ace 600'!

https://www.livestrong.com/article/385645-shimano-600-history/ Almost every single thing stated, is wrong. My favourite part: "As a result, Shimano expanded the Dura-Ace 600 line to include dual shift levers, multi-speed gear sets and bottom bracket hubs." Reminds me - I need to service my...

Pinarello Olé - respray and new parts

Before and after shots of a Pinarello Olé I have. Not so much a classic restoration, more of the Youtube type of restoration, where they respray it, add new decals and then change every component, so almost nothing original is left! But, it used up a 105 groupset I had going spare, and a brand...

Simplex /Mavic downtube shifters - dark grey anodising

Thanks, but no. They aren't black, rather a 'gunmetal'. They are definitely made by Simplex, but don't know who for.

Simplex /Mavic downtube shifters - dark grey anodising

I have a couple of pairs of these Simplex shifters, but one pair do not say Simplex on the front, and are anodised a dark grey. I've never seen any more - does anyone know what they are (Mavic, Simplex, model)? Thanks

    Raleigh Banana (pic heavy)

ISTR that the inside of the left chainstay said 'Banana' not 'Raleigh'. The inside of the right was probably the same.

    What’s this Sunn Ultra worth?

It's definitely worth more than £20 if it isn't cracked. It's just not worth the same as a steel frame of the same era. It's nice, though.

    Dawes Bike Identification Grame 531.

Remember that 531 stickers can also be bought for a fiver, so a sticker doesn't mean anything.

    What’s this Sunn Ultra worth?

What he said. It's aluminium, so I can't see it as desirable, as anything other than a functioning bike. The steel Sunn mountain bikes from the 90s are lovely though, and the high end ones are sought-after.

Shimano 600AX Chainset, pedals and bottom bracket

Okay, didn’t realise that 600AX parts went for so much. I think I’d rather sell what I have, but thanks for the offer.

Shimano 600AX Chainset, pedals and bottom bracket

I've just acquired a 600AX chainset, with the Dynadrive pedals and a BSA bottom bracket. I am missing one of the 'Shimano One Key Release' rings for the BB/crank interface, and the pedals have some play in them. They have the original clips (and some ratty straps). The chainset also comes with...

    Benotto Cromor question

If it's Cromor, someone other than Columbus did that, after they bought the tubeset. I.e. a builder bought regular tubes from Columbus, then rifled them, before building. Columbus are notorious for having hundreds of tubeset names (many are just the same set, with a different name for a...

    Road Rims from 90-94

Quick look round the workshop (don't know what would have been used by pros): Mavic deep section rims - CXP12, CXP14, CXP30 Mavic box section - NE192 (low end), MA40, MA2 (low end), Open 4CD Araya RS430 Regondi Record Weinmann DP18 Wolber GTX2, GTA2 FIR EU90, EL20

    Benotto Cromor question

It's not Columbus TSX, which had rifling on the inside of the tubes (SLX/SPX had this at the butts, TSX throughout the entire length). This external rifling isn't like any Columbus tubing I've seen - they've done star-profiled tubing with 4 and 5 points, crazy 'MS' tubing with unusual profiles...

For Sale Raleigh road bike 93, Reynolds lungless frame

Do you have any more info - I don't think I've ever seen a tig-welded steel Raleigh from the 90s? Do you know what model it is? What size is it? Do you have any better pictures? Thanks

    Mavic Monthlery Route spoke tension

So it seems that there have been three different spellings, but that still doesn't explain why they changed from the name of a place, to two completely meaningless and made-up words? Curious.

    Mavic Monthlery Route spoke tension

Slightly off-topic, but why did they change the name from Montlhery, a place in Northern France, to Monthlery, which doesn't mean anything? There seem to be various spellings, but I can't imagine a British firm changing a product from Edinburgh to Edinboro, or Leicester to Lester, just because...
