    Orbit Excel Dura-Ace

The first STI shifters were introduced in 1990, so I would guess the bike is from around then. It’s not easy finding Orbit catalogues, but as mentioned, this would definitely be the top of their range at the time. Looks like it has an interesting paint job, though obviously it’s too far gone to...

    Sorted 8 speed 32T cassette - Shimano/SRAM

Thanks @pigman – I think I did look at Decathlon a while back, but they've since reduced the price on that cassette, so it definitely could be an option.

    Sorted 8 speed 32T cassette - Shimano/SRAM

It is a Shimano CS-HG50 one? And also I guess, what price are you thinking? I'll be checking with my friend on Sunday whether they have what I'm after, so I can confirm after that if I'm still looking for one. Same questions to @hamster as well, I guess. XTR would be past my price range, but...

    Sorted 8 speed 32T cassette - Shimano/SRAM

I'm definitely after a 11-32T. I actually just found out a friend of mine might have one spare I could have, but I'd still be interested in what you might have @hamster . Thanks

Another FB 'crime against bicycles' special for only £900

I don't really think the phrase 'Ciocc replica' makes sense anyway. I mean, there are team replica bikes, but this is just a frame that's had some decals put on it, it's not any sort of 'replica'. Given the rest of the description, it very much sounds like they've used AI to write it – I mean...

    Sorted 8 speed 32T cassette - Shimano/SRAM

I'm after an 8 speed 32T cassette - Shimano/SRAM compatible. A bit of wear is okay, as long as it's fairly decent. Thanks

Another FB 'crime against bicycles' special for only £900

Hopefully this sad tale might have a happy ending, as thankfully this monstrosity of a bike has wisely been stripped down to a frame again. It's now on sale for £50, which is a surprisingly realistic price 😂. https://www.facebook.com/share/cFBZ7muwjmCTqEky/ As it's local to me, I thought I...

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

I think @hamster may very well be right. It’s definitely worth trying this first. There’s really very little to break with such a simple shifter, and it does seem more likely it’s just mounted wrong.

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

Yes, pretty much any friction shifter would do the job. But I might actually have a left Shimano 600 one for sale - I can take a look in the spares drawer tonight.

Shimano 600 5/6 Speed Gear Shift Levers - ISSUES!!

It sounds to me like the cable for the FD is not tight enough to begin with. Obviously it will have a bit of slack when the lever is all the way forward, but it should only be a bit, not really drooping. It does sound like the LBS you mention didn't really know what they were doing, I have to say...

Karma Lug lining pen - now taken

Lug lining pen - there's a crack in the handle, but it doesn't effect use, could probably just do with taping up. Yours for just the cost of postage which is £2.70 using Royal Mail 48 tracked.

    Claud Butler build

Makes sense. I'm curious what those Simplex derailleurs can shift like at their best. I've never used a non-parallelogram rear derailleur, but I suspect they are intrinsically more stiff.

    Claud Butler build

I think you've done a lovely job bringing that back to life, considering how rough it looked when you got it. It's a not my era of bicycles at all, knowledge-wise, but I did notice that the original gear cabling had an outer cable all the way along from the shifter to the rear - and this is also...

    Today's Ride

The relatively flat lands of Cheshire are rather less interesting than my usual cycling spots, but today did give me the opportunity to get a shot of a group of stags and my bike at the same time, while going through Tatton Park. Also, I can't deny it is sometimes nice to have a little...

    Unicorn Alert! Kona Haole

And I should have said, the starting price is under £700. It will be interesting to see what it goes for.

    Unicorn Alert! Kona Haole

24 photos but still not one of the full drive side view 😬. Very nice, though. Under £700 seems surprisingly reasonable to me. Lucky it's too far away and I can't be tempted...

    1990 MB Dronfield restomod build

I've been looking into the connection between MB and Malcolm Elliott, which confused me for a while until I realised that the bikes he rode which were made by MB had 'ME' on the head-tube and 'Malcolm Elliott' decals rather than the usual MB Dronfield ones. He rode an MB for the 1983 Milk Race...

    Code of the road.

How about telling a fellow cyclist if they are clearly doing something wrong like using the big ring-big sprocket combination? The other day I was behind someone in full club gear on an expensive carbon job doing this for about half a mile, at least. At first I thought the very obvious chain...
