Carrying bags on front of bike advice sought

@Jamiedyer that's very useful, thanks (on all of your points!) Fitted a lowrider rack this evening - what a faff that was. Will need some final adjustments followed by a test ride, but the set up on the Surly (above) is similar to what I had in mind. Will update once I've been out on a ride...

    26" touring forks advice....

Got to be worth sticking a couple mounting points for either a rack or bottle mounts if you've got the skillz! (Wish I had!)

    Wanted Small Panniers (front)

Apologies for not being a little clearer. I believe there are 2 x different 'types' of the Separate Carriers you mention / offered. My understanding is that the items you have required a braze-on like this, to allow the rack to fit to both sides of the fork leg. Whereas my forks only have...

    Wanted Small Panniers (front)

Many thanks for the photo's @walkmanman, but I think those racks look like they also require a braze-on that bolts from either side of the fork leg? Regardless I am going to hold out for one with a Hoop over the wheel, and use the Altura panniers that I picked up yesterday. Cheers again, Joe

I can't find anything about these specifically, but they do look similar to other Thorn racks, so you may be right. I'll probably put them up for sale.

Carrying bags on front of bike advice sought

@bikeworkshop anything is possible of course, but it would be a bit of a lash up. The eyelets are designed for a braze-on BEHIND the fork leg, like this: (whereas mine are central in the fork) Think I am going to find either a hooped rack (a friend may have one apparently...) or single sided...

    Wanted Small Panniers (front)

I'd love to see some photos of the overlanders and the racks. Bought some altura panniers and racks today but didn't realise the racks won't work for me. So may need some, but waiting on a friend to see whether he has a hooped jobby I could use. I do like the overlander range so could be...

Carrying bags on front of bike advice sought

Thanks Canuk. Intention is to run my bar bag, similar to the one you used as an example. Picked up some Altura panniers this afternoon. They came with lowrider racks, however not the right racks for mine (they need a bolt-thru braze on, whereas my braze on is just a bolt 1 side).

    Wanted Small Panniers (front)

I think I am sorted now, but will let you know later on. Do like the overlander range though! Thank-you ☺️

Thanks Bagpuss. I found some locally which I'm going looking at this afternoon, but will let you know if they aren't what I'm looking for etc.

Thanks for the replies so far. I think I've been converted to trying lowriders, for 2 reasons. 1. Advice on here regards the handling. Also, I can continue to run my usual bar bag for snacks, map on top etc. 2. Cheaper option! Found some on marketplace which I'm going looking at today...

    Wanted Small Panniers (front)

Looking for a pair of small front panniers, around 15 litres or thereabouts. To try out on my touring bike. I'm bidding on a lowrider rack on ebay, but if I don't win that I'll be after one of those too. Cheers Joe

    Orbit touring bike - Windemere - £85

Also noticed a Bob Yak nearby for £150 with bag included. So you could be riding away from Windemere with a serious touring set up, for £235! Not bad. https://www.facebook.com/share/uZy9X1SydzsaRWmq/

Cheers Hamster, Here's mine with the rear saddlebag on; Intention is to keep this in place, as well as a large front bag on a small rack. Fork does have a braze-on to carry the rack, rather than using the brake lugs.

Sure this has been discussed before but just wanted some advise / pointing in the right direction on my proposed touring set up; front end specifically. I'm running a large carradice saddlebag on a bagman support on the rear of the bike. This can accommodate my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping...

    Jamis Aurora - 2008ish

Small update. Riding this daily, done about 400 miles so far. Put some nice aluminium mudguards on it from Temple cycles. Back wheel was pinging spokes - I've no idea why. So put a new back wheel on it. Plus some 32c gravelking tlc thingies. Nice tyres. Did a 30 mile ride to Tatton Park...

    8Freight Cargo bike - restoration / project

My thoughts on the chain rubbing was to (somehow) utilise one of these (singlespeed chain tensioner) BUT, I suspect that you can come up with a better plan!

What's going on with the bar stem arrangement?! Really good to see it all up and running, you've saved it! I've been using my bike trailer with the kids as planned.
