    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

you may struggle with that until I can get it upgraded. Adobe have blocked Flash plyer from working.

No reason not to take this at face value I think. The Strada was mentioned earlier in this thread and looks a distinct possibility. The frame doesn't have the typical features of a TT frame of the time such as vertical dropouts, shot in/fast back seat stays and I assume no drilling out of the...

Ok, I guess he can also confirm the number too, so are you thinking this was built for RT or built and sold by TQ?

    Holdsworth or Roy Thame

Been looking again at the seat stay attachment to see if there are other makes with have anything similar. Come up with a few similar, but nothing exactly the same and the other frame features are completely wrong. Could be RT take on these type of attachments.

I have been looking at RT numbers again and found a few more shop numbers and a couple of 4 digit numbers. So if it is agreed this is a T Quick frame and he built a lot of the RT frames then this would all tie together. Couple of numbers below. It also seems he used 5 digit numbers with a letter...

I would have thought Winston is the man to ask on std. colours.

Yes, indeed. It seems he was good at organising things including the frame building. I therefore assume it was the same builders that work in the shop at the time and contractors if thinks got difficult with the factory.

    Holdsworth or Roy Thame

Having just responded to a similar thread I thought I'd post this. I have just bought this track framed bike off the bay which was reported to be a Holdsworth. Although a nice looking bike I had my doubts about the seat stay attachments and no number being available. As the price was good it...

Re: Re: Thanks an interesting number. We have seen 4D holdsworth factory numbers in the 30's, 60's and again in the 70's. (These can be seen in the Excel database accessed from the history site). The 70's group is a little unusual, some are clearly factory models, but a lot are contract builds...

    1930's Holdsworth Stelvio Frame?

    Ok, all interesting info. thanks.

    1930's Holdsworth Stelvio Frame?

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I try and keep up to speed with all the posts ad ad.'s etc. I remember that frame now from the discussion in the thread you mention. That's a long number to get onto the crown. I assume the forks were a replacement for the originals or old stock when the bike...

    1930's Holdsworth Stelvio Frame?

Yes, I have not seen a 50's bike with it on the crown, I thought that was only pre-war. Most of the Pre-war frames have the number on the seat lug with one exception which is a lug less frame so that is on the BB. They seemed to move to the BB then the rear drop out and then back to the BB...

    1930's Holdsworth Stelvio Frame?

thanks, very similar to mine with headset oiler and straight brake bridge. Lugs seem to have a more rounded cut out? Also I see the lamp bracket is on the 'right' side, mine is on the left which I have also seen on a few older bikes. I'll add the number to the log too. Its all a bit of a guess...

    1930's Holdsworth Stelvio Frame?

Saw this frame on the bay, second time its been on there and its number, 0319, is the lowest I have seen to date. (If anyone has a lower number I would be interested) As it would have been a shame to see it get broken up I went for it and got the forks too. Looking at the 1934 catalog its...

    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Thanks for the number and info. That is actually under a year in circulation before sale, not that uncommon.

Thanks, yes I did look for bead blasting etc, but could only find sand or vapour locally. I am sure there are poepl close to me that do do it, but not found hem yet. Bit reluctant to sand blast it so will continue getting the rest rest of the paint off with emery cloth, then try the chemicals again.

ok, as there is very little paint left here and I want it off anyway I'll try the paper towels. Might also see who does bead blasting round here. Thanks

Do I remember on some thread you showed now you got rust off frames? I seem to remember it involved putting them in bags filled with some concoction. I think this is going to need a good soak in something to really kill off the rust. I am feeling confident there is nothing structural so now need...
