Final coat of Kurust and then primer. Will need to fill any remaining pits. Quite a difference from how it was, I am sure the metal has thinned a bit, but no structural problems found.

Forks are primed and the frame is down to bare metal. At the stage where I am going to be removing too much good metal to get any more of the rust off. Having treated it with Kurust I am not getting any red dust of the pitting, prime the frame next.

yes that would seem to be a 1977 build. Difficult to know what colour that is as the Cats. do not specify a colour, as you could have any one. the picture in the 78 Cat. looks similar. I understand Mario Vaz is still painting frames and may be able to advise if this is a std Holdsworth colour.

That number would suggest 1949 and there were only a few models that year, the lug less LaQuelda and the Cyclone. As yours has track ends I can only see it as a Cyclone track model. That said I can not see the detail of the lugs as looking the same. You might want to check this out here...

Yes, I would see this as a 531 Special with early 70's 4 digit number. Bit of an odd group of numbers these so could be difficult to determine exactly who built it.

Nice looking bike, bit difficult to ID, could do with close ups of the lug work and rear brake bridge. Holdsworth used 4 digit numbers in the early 60's and seemed to again in early 70's. For numbers below 1000 there were 3 digit without a leading zero, so I assume this is from one of these...

Thanks, Yes I get the distinct impression it is a contract build, but who for is the big question. There are a number of possibilities, but the seat stay attachment and the number on the BB socket with no obvious frame number does seem the only significant details. Thanks for your help.
