    1993 Kona Hot

Good to know others also make these mistakes on the way to finalising the perfect build!

🔥Kona Cinder Cone 1991 restore and disc conversion

It looks good -- nice to see an old warhorse gussied up and ready to ride.

    1999 Kona Haole

Good bones! Are you going to put some drop bars on it? IMO (and for no real reason) it seems to be asking for them . . . (And I'm thinking you'll probably need a new chain . . .)

    Kronos springs - enlighten me

Damn, was giving out likes like confetti without realising this was a resurrected thread! Very interesting though -- worth getting the updated info.

    Best Find at the Dump?

It's not quite in the league of a Grubb or a Herse, but I found this tiny Kona sans wheels which yielded some good bits and the frame of which will go on as karma to the local retro MTB facebook group. That rack looks bigger than the frame!

I guess it's a good opportunity to upgrade?

Imlach's Sweaty Hippie Funk Collection, adventure bikes, rusty rats, cruisers and other alt bastardisations of bicyclery

Just replacing those exact levers on a 2004 Kona Jake. I just can't see how they can be operated ergonomically in this setup . . .

    Today's Ride

Mrs Moonlite and I have just done a long walk around the village and come across no fewer than seven kiddy bikes abandoned at strategic intervals alongside the road. All of them poor-quality entry-level ones with heavy frames and basic parts; all rusted and clearly never having been cared for...

Imlach's Sweaty Hippie Funk Collection, adventure bikes, rusty rats, cruisers and other alt bastardisations of bicyclery

This thread clearly serves a valuable purpose and it deserves to be constantly updated. Thanks to Reddit, there's a seemingly endless supply of relevant material.

Oh no . . . what have I done? Cinder Cone suggestions welcomed

That's a great approach -- I've debated doing period-correct builds in the past, but really want to ride these things, so won't scruple to use modern parts to bring out the best in the frame. I think 1x10 is very much a possibility with current bits and pieces I have.

I take it your not going high end and trying not to buy anything. Or do you actually mean, feck it buy buy buy ;-) Haha I'll try to spec it up with what I have as far as possible -- I have some STX RC V-brakes and levers, for example, and probably cranks from the same gruppo. Stem, bars etc...

Oh no . . . what have I done? Cinder Cone suggestions welcomed

Nice ideas . . . I like the idea of red DX. I'll go through the spares pile and see what I can put together -- I think I can assemble an STX drivetrain and maybe some later Marzocchi forks. It's a pity decent P2s are getting hard to find as that would be a great combo. Wheels are the big...

You know that feeling when your project queue is full and you're not sure how to get everything done, and then you land yourself with another project? Well, somehow that happened -- again. This frame came up locally and given how these are akin to hens' teeth in Aus in my kind of size, I sort...

    Today's Ride

Had an hour off at lunchtime -- was a bit indecisive about riding because on the one hand, it was cold and a bit windy, but on the other, it wasn't raining and the sun was coming out. On the basis that there are a couple of heavy work days ahead, though, I headed out to the usual dirt roads...
