Amazed you've had no interest, thats a bargain surely. I've always wanted one but bicycles of the motorised persuasion are not something I'm allowed at the moment 🙄

How hard (moreso costly) is it to put a modern drivetrain on a vintage mtb?

Likewise, never seen a new member dominate the forum so much in 1 weekend

Wanted Cheapy square taper crankset (riveted fine) 22/32/42 (or similar)

104 bcd 4 bolt triple crankset will have a 64 bcd for the inner ring, which you can get in a 22t. The general common standards for mtb triples are: 110 bcd (5 arm with 74 bcd inner) 94 bcd (5 arm with 58 bcd inner) 104 bcd (4 arm with 64 bcd inner) There are others obviously but these are the...

How hard (moreso costly) is it to put a modern drivetrain on a vintage mtb?

If you search '22 crankset' or '22 chainset' on ebay, sort by price: lowest to highest and condition: used there are plenty of options for £20 or less Some are 4 x 104 with 64bcd inners but still gets you the 22t inner you want.

I'd hazard a guess that the rotary hubs referenced were designed with this in mind and maybe had strengthened axles? Extra...

    1984 Saracen 'Sherpa'

Crikey, nearly 3 months later, about time I updated this. In between keeping the kids occupied over the summer I have managed to steal a bit of time to make some progress on this. Finished polishing the frame and rather pleased with how well it came up doing everything by hand. I ended up...

    It was different back then!

Amazing, my father in law gave me some plans to make a bicycle sidecar at home and did make me wonder if anyone actually used them bitd. Cargo bike with sidecar, that's what we all need!

    Surly Cross Check Project Thread

Personally I would leave the paint as is but put some new decals on there since they are fairly readily available. Cross Checks are great.

    Sold 1987/88 Raleigh Maverick £50

Yeh in fairness I've just this week come to that conculsion with my Saracen, making good progress with it but once it's done it's going to be too small for me to ride any distance 😔, which is strange as the top tube length is longer than my Rockrider which is on the larger side for me. Out of...
