What's your 26" road tyre choice?

When I can find them, I love Maxxis Wormdrive. They don't make them anymore, so I'm stuck buying new old stock. Luckily, I've found a NOS set of 26" F/R specific pattern and compound, and a set of 700x32. I'm still rolling on an old, sun faded pair on my Kona Humu too, and I bought those NOS...

    Kona Explosif 1997 team edition

I may have asked this before, but is this the same "Columbus Kona mountainbike" that was listed to eBay back in 2016? If so, I was one of the other bidders who lost! Part of me wishes I had bid more to win, but honestly, I can't think of a better person to own and restore this beautiful '97 than...

Dang it! ...but yes, I agree, more sexy Konas please!

    1992 Kona Cinder Cone

Thanks! Would you believe I bought it for $5 at a yard sale? I think you can see the pink sticker to the left of "Korg Poly-61". Guy said nobody wanted it because "it didn't have built in speakers" 😂

    1992 Kona Cinder Cone

Thanks! It most definitely is a shrine, and don't call me Shirley. It gets used weekly! It is one of the few I won't get rid of. Thanks! The shrine is 5 years in the making, and I'm always looking for new bits to add. I just recently got that helmet cover. I wish I had a '95 poster catalog...

    1992 Kona Cinder Cone

Today, in preparation of submitting a BOTM entry, I swapped over some different bottle cages, to match the 91/92 green/purple color theme Kona had going on back then. I also switched over to a pair of supple Scratch & Sniff tires that I think I pulled off of a '96 Fire Mountain SE. I also...

BoTM BoTM May 2022 nominations - Kona Special, dedicated to the memory of @pipmeister

I thought about it, and I think I'm going to keep my Humu waiting in the wings for a potential future klunker/cruiser month, just in case. So today, I dusted Cindy off, put some different shoes and jewelry on, and went for a ride. I forgot how precise this bike feels! I'll be updating my build...

BoTM BoTM May 2022 nominations - Kona Special, dedicated to the memory of @pipmeister

I heard the news about Pip last week, and it hit me pretty hard. His work here on this site was the reason I got into vintage mountain biking, and bought my first vintage Kona. Now, Kona is my favorite, and I collect them, holding only a little bit of the knowledge and memorabilia that I know...

    Kona's page

Are those forks a pair of Ti P2s? Doesn't look painted, color looks Ti, and looks like the standard Joe Murray decal from the earlier Ti P2s. Nice bike!

    1995(?) Kona Humu in Yellow

https://www.ebay.com/itm/125268486013 I've been watching this one for a day or so, and I can't find another Humu like it. This one has the 1995 Humu kit, with all the right silver hardware, cranks, and brakes from 1995, and the orange decals from that year. All of the other yellow Humus I've...

    1991 Trek 990

It's way better 😂 I've ridden a 1992 8700, and yep, this bike is much more responsive. It's also lighter than my 1992 Kona Cinder Cone, go figure. I think that bike has heavier wheels. The two are surprisingly similarly kitted, though I love the glossy all black of this Trek more I think.

1991 Trek 8900 - Florescent resto happiness (almost NOS)

Looks great! Love the yellow straps, nice touch. I just finished it's high end steel brother from 1991, an orange 990. Link is in my signature if you're curious. I also saw an identically painted 1991 2300 Composite road bike pop up locally for $100, but I passed on it. The bond at the BB lugs...

    1991 Trek 990

This one is dedicated to all of the Tioga parts! Enjoy some nice photos on my first ride around Forest Park with this beautiful gem. It is super compliant, and nimble! I intentionally went out of my way to go over curbs, loose brick, pot holes, and other fun terrain. I also splashed through...

    1991 Trek 990

It took a few months to go over the frame and touch up all the blemishes. I didn't do a perfect job, and the Testor's model enamel I got was not the exact same black. I can only tell under direct light, so I'm not worrying too much about it. It was super thrashed, and could have easily been...

    1995 Kona Humuhumu-Nukunuku-A-Pua'a

Here's some bonus photos. First up is the bike fully loaded and damn near 50lbs. I have 10.5lbs of lock and chain up front, and a bunch of snacks in the new old stock Topeak original Quick Track trunk bag in the back (I guess it's no longer new lol) I also carried tools and spare tubes for that...

    1995 Kona Humuhumu-Nukunuku-A-Pua'a

I took some photos on my ride today to show off some progress. I added both a front Sunlite rack, and also a rear Topeak rack, both with light mounts. I also mounted a Cateye Padrone cycling computer to the stem. Lastly, I upgraded the front hub with a QR axle and ControlTech Ti QR bolt...

Kona Humuhumu stars and bars, tell me all you know about it.

I know @al-onestare posted this once before elsewhere, but here is Joe Murray's personal Kona custom single speed in Stars and Bars, with the gorgeous Ti P2 "Joe’s commuter bike. A limited edition made with Tange tubing that they never sold yet was given to select people and some dealers...
