Wanted SR Royal handlebar stem 80mm

Thought there was a 80mm SR stem on one of the bikes I'm breaking. There is but it's not a Royal, it's one of the lower spec things with a semi-captive hex nut on the back of the bar clamp.

    Quick Colnago Question

'Master' has/had a wide range of sub models and not just Masters were built with Gilco, it or similar style tubing can appear across quite a lot of the Colnago range in both steel and aluminium.

Then of course there are the multitude of bombs that in the interests of safety have been placed inside vehicles. One of my cars is subject to a manufacturer recall because the passenger airbag could That's a good idea - protect our customers by mounting Claymore mines in front of them.

    Little Moser in Norfolk

That's a smart looking frame - I wonder what it actually is under those transfers?

Bubbling paint on carbon and alu

Both alloy and steel are susceptible to galvanic corrosion where bonded to a carbon composite. Water accelerates the chemical reaction and can also wick along any exposed fibres and temperature variations can then cause the moisture to expand and contract creating micro cracks in the resin...

    Vintage Falcon help

I'd put money on that starting out as a Black Diamond as it's the only Falcon-badged model I remember in that silver with half-chrome forks and centre pull brakes. OK, the chain set isn't the usual one but it wasn't unknown for the kids in the Brigg factory to put on whatever they had to hand...

    Bike storage/workshop. Your thoughts, experiences

My other half manages a storage company with 6 sites (1 internal facility and 5 externals using converted shipping containers). Internal units would probably be a bit iffy about working on the bikes in them as they usually have rules about things like oil and other chemicals. I'd go for...

    Vintage Falcon Road Bike

Can't help with the model, just a bit with the date - it's after 1985. I worked for Falcon in 80/81 (maybe into 82) then left the cycle trade completely in 85 and never in that time saw a Falcon with that head badge or decals, they all had the foil head badge with Olympic rings and the decals...

Cogwalls, remember those. ya' know, when you wear out that cog you always used. what happened¿

Thinking back nearly 50 years, the LBS I worked in had 3 sprocket boards. Two behind the counter in the retail area next to the door into the workshop, a Maillard (blue) to one side of the doorway and a white one on the other side (can't remember what sprockets went on there, might have been...

    Bikes and Bunkers

This might help https://www.subbrit.org.uk/sites/ One ROC site south of York now lies buried by the A64 while its replacement has been built over by a bungalow - the below ground bunker was retained with access through a hatch in the hallway floor and was used for storage by the householder but...

Cogwalls, remember those. ya' know, when you wear out that cog you always used. what happened¿

And with the Maillards you could spin the splined sprockets to get more life from them.

    Sunbeam Restoration

True about the threads, but that's the left side of the bike that's pictured so he's trying to turn it the correct way. +1 on using a punch, that's what we used to do if a lock ring was too tight to be shifted by the wonderful VAR 16 pliers.

    Code of the road.

I always stop if I see a rider or small group with a mechanical because from experience I know that a fair number of people have no idea which end of a spanner to use. Once I came across a lad scratching his head over a couple of mudguard stays that had detached - a few seconds work with a hex...

    Bikes and Bunkers

Sort of a bunker - the remains of Tollerton ROC post. Rather than start a Bikes and bridges and bunkers thread, this is killing two birds with one stone type thing, the anti-tank barrier pillars at Aldwark toll bridge, with a gratuitous shot to include the bridge deck (also appears in...

    Bikes and Bridges

Ignoring the dross that are most of the Railtrack and NYCC bridges around here I present a couple of privately owned examples. The first two are the bridal way bridge at Myton-on-Swale and the third is Aldwark toll bridge. If there was a metalled surface on both sides of the Myton bridge I'd...

    Can I salvage this?

Cleaning all the rubbish and corrosion from around the bolt heads before applying the penetrant fluid would be a good idea.

    Bikes and Bunkers

In 2008 these were all that was left of the local airfield buildings. A year later they were gone. Now it looks like this. In the early 1990s I worked in a factory on the other side of the airfield which used a load of the old buildings - so much so that the main assembly halls were all called...

    Bikes and Bunkers

Despite there being more WW2 airfields around here than you can shake a spoke at, there's now very little remaining above ground that you can get to without trespassing - the phrase "site visits are not welcome" or similar is used a lot. The airfield that I live next to is now mostly only...

    Zeus 2000 vintage bike

And a bit more. According to Velobase, Zeus frames were made by Ciclos Letona and Razesa in Alsasua (or Altsasu, depending on if you're Basque or Spanish). Ciclos Letona is now Talleres Letona having branched out into engineering, machining and welding but still builds frames...

    Zeus 2000 vintage bike

Just being picky but it's not all 2000. The cranks are Criterium and the hubs look to be Gran Sport. The crank bolt I can see looks to be chrome plated so the BB is probably Criterium too rather than the titanium 2000 model. Nothing wrong with fitting 2000 chainrings and Criterium cranks, most...
