1997 Marin Hawk Hill restomod - not one for the purists!

It’s great. So useable and confidence inspiring while not making easy trails boring but my heart wants a 17” steel Rockhopper so a winter project beckons lol

I know what you’re thinking and you are right, more or less. Original bikes will only be original once and certainly welding brackets on and chopping bits off could be considered an act of vandalism but…. A cheap steel canti frame bought as a project is a costly investment to bring back to...

1997 Marin Hawk Hill restomod - not one for the purists!

That's turned into a really useable bike, I bet it gets loads of use now. I did a similar conversion on a steel Kona and there is something special about riding these '90s bikes back in the day and then the same bikes decades later with exceptional brakes, wide bars and shorter stems. 1997 Kona Cinder Cone Disc conversion

I’m not sure how you are supposed to secure the brake hose on a pace rc36 fork but I wasn’t happy about using a zip tie so I knocked up a new spacer for the bridge. That’s better than a zip tie, I do love the scrap bin at work. I’ll make it prettier when I strip Cinders down for decals and lacquer.

    Specialized Rockhopper saga

This might work, minimal paint damage from welding, decals will survive. Brackets need some work or a redesign …… A winter project maybe 🤔
