    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    /\ I love this! Overbury’s appeal to me as Bristol is close to home. Your story there encapsulates the feeling that Overbury’s appealed to a wide audience at an exciting time in MTB history. Thanks for sharing that

    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    I should have thought to check our own Retrobike archive before. New (to me) Overbury’s catalogue dated March 1989. It shows tubing options as Reynolds 531/Columbus mix, Columbus O.R, Tange Prestige or Max O.R.

    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    No fluting/rifling inside the steerer @retrobikeguy. Steerer looks to be stamped TANGE 8C. Anyone know if that’s a date code? 8 representing 1988 maybe? A few fork photos;

    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    Thanks @doctor-bond! I’m not sure if mine will end up ‘super light’ but it would be interesting to compare frame weights between a Columbus Pioneer, a Max OR one and this Tange Prestige one. I’ve yet to find another example in Prestige - you have to assume Andy would have made more than one though.

    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    Thank you @pwebb - some good points there. A couple of photos to demonstrate your comments about the fork. Firstly, my old Pioneer with Columbus tubing - the lugged fork you discussed; And the unicrown fork on this one… Tange tubing;

    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    Had a chance to have a proper look at the frame today. Definitely want to keep the original paint. The colour sections are good. The black paint is pretty tired in places so will have to decide later on how to address that. Found the serial number under the bottom bracket - #2221. The other...

    An Unusual Formula 1 - final pictures on page 3 and 4

    Absolutely stunning job, Pete! Love the attention to detail and the creative build ideas/solutions. 😎

    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    The original owner also kept all the paperwork with the bike. This is his sketch which was presented to Overbury’s for the paint job. The original receipt has also survived. This is the only Pioneer I can recall seeing with Tange Prestige tubing for both the frame and fork. Anyone else seen...

    1989 Overbury’s Tange Prestige Pioneer

    Ok, about to get this rebuild on track. The original owner kindly dug out some photos from when the bike was brand spanking new in 1989, freshly picked up from Overbury’s in Bristol.

    1988 Moulton AM-ATB

    A few photos from the Moulton Rally. There was something satisfying about taking it back to the Moulton factory in Bradford on Avon where it was built in 1988. Having spent most of its life in the USA it was nice to return it to its birthplace. Seems slightly surreal to me that one of the...

    Wanted First gen Pace RC30 crown

    Thank you @tangent - appreciated. On closer inspection I should clarify I’m after the completely flat crown without the ‘bulge’ which I guess came slightly later, like on yours
