    1996 Stevens 7.6.2. Comp (1991 Koga-Miyata Terraliner Carbolite)

Thanks joglo for your input and the catalog scan, I’ve only found a few pictures on the net. Also nothing about the frames geometry. You are right, the stock 120 mm stem is definitely too long for drop bars and I will have to make it fit with a shorter and taller stem that won’t look so nice...

    1996 Stevens 7.6.2. Comp (1991 Koga-Miyata Terraliner Carbolite)

Thread resurrection: Another promising victim for a gravel conversion has reached my home ;) Stevens “7.6.2. Comp”. Exact year: Unknown, as they aren’t well documented. Also no numbers on the frame or forks indicating a date. But guess something around 95. It’s just a make of a german...

    Little Wins

Finding parts that aren’t even collectibles or vintage but excellent quality and hard to come by in decent condition and finally half the price than expected 🤗 FD-6500 with 28.6 clamp PD-MX30

Is the price of parts putting you off?

Before Covid and the supply chain broke down prices in german web shops run by investment companies like bike24 were insanely low and their offers countless. When you can get a new boxed XT 10-Speed RD for 60 € why spend 40 for a used 7-Speed, maybe the seller didn’t tell you the whole truth...

    Unneeded bikes as wall art?

I think so, but I don’t know? Some idiot widened the cable stops and one is broken. I’ve seen half a dozen others in the meantime (did a build thread ages ago) but it’s the only one I know with U-brake and the old school fork crown. The guy who brazed the canti studs also had one Heineken too...

    Unneeded bikes as wall art?

I have a similar setup. Better than some third-class painting. Look at those chainstays. Like the legs of a beautiful woman :p

    2008 Salsa Ala Carte

The Salsas of that time were such nice frames. I always wanted a Vaya but every time when the moment was right they were out of stock. Now the current model has a rear post mount with QR and a front flat mount with Thru Axle! What are they thinking? The Fargo has overcomplicated dropouts, boost...

Is there a market for reproduction parts?

Don‘t know about reproduction parts but things I miss are: - Reasonable cable hangers/stops for 1‘ fork quill stems (22.2 mm clamp). The only ones you can get are Paul Funky Monkey. In the end I gave up and paid the 50 € for it. - Simple computer mounts with a 22.2 mm clamp for handlebars -...

    Today's Ride

Today’s ride was so annoying that I didn't have a break to take any pics, but lots of riding in the past weeks:)

Advice on Rims and spokes for a wheel build

I‘ve once had strange results with „edd“. It turned out the measurements of the hub in their database were wrong. I would also recommend to double check with spocalc and your own measurements and typing the results manually in the dtswiss calculator, e.g.

    Grease and degreaser

Oh, what I meant was petroleum ether, lighter fluid, cleaner's solvent, sorry for the misunderstanding The smell of leaded petrol really was addictive :p

    Grease and degreaser

I used to use benzine, petrol or WD40 for cleaning chainrings, etc., but switched to liquid citric acid (from Lidl, e.g.). It works at least as good and leaves less mess in the sink (also better for the environment, I suppose). As always: Wear gloves and protect your eyes. Rinse parts...

    Today's Ride

60 flat kilometers today along the river. I didn’t ride much in the last weeks. Now back to short-time working again due to covid and our incapable government. I’ve changed tires on my bad weather bike from WTB Byway 40 to Conti Terraspeed 40. A little wider and more volume. Lower pressure...

    1996 Stevens 7.6.2. Comp (1991 Koga-Miyata Terraliner Carbolite)

I’ve tried to translate what is written about carbolite in their ‘89 dutch catalogue: “Unique to Koga-Miyata Carbolite frames, is the usage of 0.7 mm alu tubes on the inside, that guarantee a lasting bond to the lugs, which is otherwise the weak point of carbon frames.” Makes sense, if it was...

    1996 Stevens 7.6.2. Comp (1991 Koga-Miyata Terraliner Carbolite)

That’s a lovely bike, @Elev12k. I remember me having a Koga catalogue when I was a kid in the early eighties and dreaming of having one. Well, bad news! That strange Campa seat post...Hard to believe, but the former owner or his idiot mechanic has reamed the seat tube to fit a 26.2 post. Even...

    1996 Stevens 7.6.2. Comp (1991 Koga-Miyata Terraliner Carbolite)

Thanks for the good news regarding cartridges @Elev12k  Some progress: The bars are described as “SR CMB 240 H 430 Tilver”. I reckon that means Sakae/Modolo Anatomic. Something Japanese would have been nice, but I’ve sourced these never used 25.4 mm Italmanubri instead I never really...

    1996 Stevens 7.6.2. Comp (1991 Koga-Miyata Terraliner Carbolite)

Re: Cheers Elev12K. Creaky Noises :? Maybe I should do a test ride to see if the bonding has come loose….But even if the frame should be toast, it was a bargain, so I’m not worrying too much  Do you know if standard CO² Cartridges fit in the threads of holder?

Re: I’m going to rebuild it with drop bars, of course. Therefor I’ve already acquired these SL-BS50-7 shifters, another luck find on the same day. All bearings seem to be smooth, hopefully there is no surprise hiding somewhere, because the only spare part I have left is a M730 bottom bracket.
