Hello, I was hoping that the good people in this thread might be able give me some tips. Im going to be doing a week ish long cycle from Inverness to Oban in a few weeks (on a 1992 Marin Eldridge grade). Not camping but staying in bnbs etc . This is the first time I’ve done anything like this...

    91 Team Marin...all road tourer?!

I was advised in one of my (many) asking for advice threads, to try a straight seat post on my Marin to help with back pain. Would you say that this is a bad idea (correct position over crank wise ) ?

    Anti back-pain-stem recommendation please!

https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/seat-posts/264-brandx-inline-6061-seat-post-black-400-mm/ Is this the kind of seat post that might help? Not that much choice of 26.4 straight ones

    Anti back-pain-stem recommendation please!

Haha I knew this would get a good response! Very kind offer, Is this a quill stem though? I’m going to get a new straight seat post too I think. And a saddle actually , not sure I like that one , what do people like for this kind of riding? (I know saddles are all personal preference but would...

    Anti back-pain-stem recommendation please!

Thanks for all the replies - retrobike back pain experts, who would have thought it! I think I’ll try a different stem first . Shame to lose the fluro original but im prioritising comfort over aesthetics… Maybe something like this…

    Anti back-pain-stem recommendation please!

Hi all. I’m planning on doing a few days/maybe a week of riding in Scotland in a month or so on this bike (1992 Marin Eldridge grade - which I made a thread about building/doing the London to Brighton on https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/london-to-brighton-on-an-old-marin.469343/ ) . One...

Disc brake on a 2001 Marzocchi bomber

Looking for some advice - I would like to put a disc brake on these 2001 marzocchi bombers . It appears to have some kind of double tab mount but on closer inspection I’m not sure these even have a thread!? Can you put a disc on these forks? If yes, what kind of adapter do I need? Cheers!

    1993? Univega Alpina Pro

I reckon it has the ‘concept performance package’ the stem and bars are concept, also has the black LX cranks like the first catalogue picture you posted and lx/xt bits mentioned there too

I took it apart properly yesterday. Everything came off fine except the seat post . Not that it matters much as I think the frame is probably too far gone…probably 🤔

    1993? Univega Alpina Pro

I got this a little while back for £15 (thanks to the eBay watch section here!) which seems a good price considering the xt derailleur and lx bits. I quite like the paint and was considering trying to restore it so it’s rideable for as little money as possible. Started stripping it off last...

London to Brighton on an old Marin

Haha cheers. I was definitely pleased that I switched to the triple chain set at the last minute. Could still have done with a slightly larger large cog but definitely appreciated the small one going up the beacon. I don’t think I’ve ever sweated more in my life but it did feel like an...
